I'm trying to make a mission where the AI is supposed to land a few aircaft, preferrably bombers. I set a waypoint with 0 alt and 0 speed at an airfield with the correct affliation. What else? Am I completely out? Help! /Alexander - still in holding pattern... IP: Logged |

This usually works, if the AI is able to land that plane.IP: Logged |

Hm... What planes can the AI land? I tried it with the B17G, and it never lowers the gear... Has anyone gotten the JU87 to take off, by the way?IP: Logged |

to be honest, I've never heard of anyone actually being able to make a mission with an aircraft starting in the air and designated to land at an airbase, as far as I know this can't be done in SDOE, guys, correct me if I'm wrong.IP: Logged |

Hmm...Missions I've made to test the AI's ability to take off and land planes I've made all work as designed. Basicly I give the AI a few waypoints that ends back at the airfield. The AI will follow the waypoints and upon reaching the last waypoint, will manuver itself into position to land... nothing fancy I know ... but it does land. IP: Logged |

At the end of this mission, the surviving bombers land at Valetta just fine. The AI lands the B-17G better than I can do it myself [This message has been edited by Pachy (edited 10-16-2000).] IP: Logged |

If you have an in-flight start AI will land. The trick is that you have to bring them in low and slow. Depending on the alt. of the airfield, if you bring your a/c in between 1000 and 2000 ft. at approx. 150 mph., 85% of the time the a/c will land. I even have missions where the a/c land at undesignated fields. In beta65 I have even seen crippled a/c fall out of formation and land at the closest friendly field. It's very rare but I swear I've seen it happen. You gotta remember that some fields are not very AI friendly, especially for bombers. Beja, Alzey, and Doullens immediately come to mind. All 3 are rough on heavy load take offs and its nearly impossible for AI to land a B-17 at Beja undamaged. B-17's will circle the field forever before deciding to land. Lancasters are much more AI friendly. Some times you just have to wait it out if you want them all to land. It took me a while to figure all this out when I was a "newbie"(this time last year) and back then even some of the "bigger" names around here were kind of fuzzy on this subject. Now if we could only get those carriers working................. IP: Logged |
