Can anyone help me. I am new to Fighter Squadron. I have download some aircraft some work okay but some don't. The one's that dont work start to load up and I get a quick flash of the cockpit, but then it kicks the game out and back to my desktop. I was told to unzip all planes into he normal Fighter Squadron folder and that was it. Any help would be great. Thanks!IP: Logged |

Have e-mailed you my Startup.ppf file, you sometimes need to edit this file after adding a new plane or weapon, my version should be nearly up to date so use this and keep a copy in a safe place in case future edits/zips mess it up. Oh and welcome to SDOE.------------------ IP: Logged |

Give us some more info, eg are the extra planes from a plane pack, have you installed the contest pack 1.1 or the WW1 pack, if you have downloaded extra planes as individual planes which directory did you install them to. Also which directory did you install the startup.ppf to. ------------------ IP: Logged |

I have just been downloading single planes and then unzipping straight into the fighter squadron folder. I put the startup into the fighter squadron folder also. Some planes work well but some just flash up and then kick me out of the game. I have not installed any packs of any kind. Should I have done this first? Also in the readme files on some of the planes it says not to install to the fighter sqdn folder, but to the Media folder only, and adding lines of text into different files...... sorry but I'm not very good at this kind of thing. All I would like to do is fly the planes...offline would do me just as good.Any help gratefully received.......... IP: Logged |

ally, unfortunately some planes zip into the fighter squadron folder, some the aircraft folder and some the media folder. Unzip into a temporary folder first and then open the folders until you find the readme file. Then read it carfully for exact unzip instructions. The readme will also tell you if new lines have to be added to your startup.ppf folder. Go to your Fighter Squadron/Media folder and look for the startup.ppf folder. Open it and see what's inside to get an idea of line structure. If a new line is needed by a new plane you just type it in the startup.ppf and save it. Install the plane paks first. They will write over your startup.ppf folder (I think). So, if you add a newer post-pak plane and a new .ppf line that comes with the new plane and then install the plane pak, it will over write your new line and that plane will crash. Another thing. Install the paks and any new planes one at a time and make sure everything works before you install anything else. Also, always make a copy of your startup.ppf file. That way if a plane suddenly starts to crash you can compare your current file with the backup to see what changed. I'm not sure if this is all clear. Let us know. IP: Logged |

Yeh I think I've got the gist of it thanks Jerry. I was sent a startup ppf file by email to use instead of mine as I was told it was more complete than mine was, I got it off Bill. I've been trying to install the JU88G2 but it kicks out to desktop, bit I was told that it may need a line of text from (One of the paks??) any ideas. There's also one called Akagi, the carrier, do Ijust install it, can it be landed on, can it be used, etc.IP: Logged |
