Hey guys.

I just added the WWI Pack on top of Contest Pack 1.1, and PP5.3a. I was trying make some neat WWI mission however I can't seem to get the observation balloons up right. I'm using the Rhineland map and I've placed a few Observation Balloons around an airfield.

Problem is, if I use ground object Obs Balloons, their ID tag is on the ground, and a 'unknown object' balloon appears high above the spot and is undestructable.

I've placed a 'aircraft' Obs Balloon in the air starting at 5000 feet, but when the mission starts, it sits on the ground.

Any hints or help would be appreciated.

Set the 'aircraft' balloon's start alt. to 20000, then it would start in the air and you can fly it around.

Yep...the ground object balloon does that...I think if you happen to get it before it comes back down and hits the ground, you can destroy it...but for some reason once it touches back down it is invulnerable. I just finished Rickenbacker's autobiography and he talked about trucks that reeled them in...is there a way we can place a truck with a flak gun and maybe a rope on that ID tag? Then maybe you could hit the truck and the balloon would float away...or something like that...just popping out random thoughts here

I just use the ground version, after all you could not fly these balloons around.

It starts on the ground and then launches high faster than a plane can climb. Then it bobs up and down up there for 5 minutes. Then it heads back to earth.

I don't use ID tags for WWI, so I don't need to worry about the dof-hack id tag that you see on the ground.

Balloons can be shot down, but they can take quite a few bullets. Try the N17 rockets, a couple hits from these will take out the balloon

In fact I just got back from an on-line mission with 2 n17's hitting a balloon defended by wwi archy and a sneaky dvii. Fun, but the sdoe ground bug hits sometimes so you may not see the balloon explode when another player takes it out
