There are a few free 3d modellers out there, but they all have problems when trying to work with SDOE. The best results I got were with old quake modellers and some old and iffy conversion programs. Got things to work, but had real problems with textures and normals.

surf a few links at www.amazing3d.com

and look under free 3d modellers. Ideally you'll need to look for a modeller that supports .OBJ files and TIF textures.

To get OPS to run well, you must have DirectX version 5 or above. Don't double click on the .SM, but open OPS and open the file from there.

Apart from that, you'll need to post what error message you are getting to give us a clue. I've never had OPS crash on opening a plane unless the plane was corrupt.

More info please.

(see what happens when you ask nicely!)
