OK over the last couple of weeks I have been getting CTD's more frequently. I have deleted and re-installed after defraging and cleaning up the PC. My CTD's are not related to anything like being hit for the first time or near the end of a mission they are putting me down all over the place.I was thinking that it could be the cache file so I deleted and re-set. No go still CTD's So now I need to take a look at my memory, does anyone have any procedures I should follow for testing and to make sure everything is working the way it should be. I'm hoping we have some tech support guys in the community. Thanks in advance for any help. I can e-mail the system specs to anyone who might want them. IP: Logged |

This is a difficult one.. and I'm not sure I can help much, but what I can tell yo uis that SDOE is very memory hungery, I've been using MemTurbo, which recovres RAM at a certain minimum level. I have 160mb installed, and memturbo is set to recover when there is only 40mb left, if I forget to close it down before I run SDOE I can garuntee memtirbo will run about evey 5 mins, which means that SDOE is using up atleast 120mb, but that being said, even when I only had 64mb it ran well enough. Ofcourse your memroy could be damaged, but I'm sure that you would get memory errors outside of the game if that were the case, so I doubt that memory is the problem here.I'm sorry I can't help more.. but I can't really say whats causing this for you, only that I don't think it will be your memory. Hello Bulldog! I feel your pain. This might not help but give it a go anyway. After sdoe ctd try starting another app (like another game) and after it starts up shut it down. Then start sdoe again and see what happens then. This has helped me but only when I ctd multi times in a row. Again this might not help but give it a try it doesn't hurt. Good suggestions, thanks. It's just so wierd, It really seems as if the PC just runs out of memory then just crashes. I have system diag tools and they all tell me something like 92% resources free all the time. I can play other games Nascar, Falcon 4.0 and open up Microsoft apps fine. I have 80meg. I have closed all apps, deleted everything but SDOE, defraged, cleaned then re-booted and still get consistant CTD's. One thing I have noticed is that on starting the PC under all the manufacturer garbige I am now seeing a single line that says REM-c:net boot/******* I'm at work so I can't remember exactly but that's why I'm thinking memory problem. This line was never there before when I booted the system. IP: Logged |

What missions are you flying when it crashes?I have found that Jeeve's Dover Campaigns frequently overwhelm my CPU/Videocard and I crash. I go into the mission, delete and few objects, and it runs. The ships and the klaxon make a big difference. I have an anemic system though. My 12mb voodoo2 and 96mb mem. are probably OK but my CPU is only a PII 266. IP: Logged |
