Trying to give an assist to a newbie.

System is a Gateway Pentium 600, 32 Ram, ATi 3D RageII + Direct Draw, DX7.0 installed.

Everything works ok unitl you reach the Mission Check list (downloading terrain) and then the system just freezes up. Needs to Alt,Ctl,Del to get computer working again.

BTW, the program is a copied version (CD burn). Does this matter?

Any ideas please! :-)

A copied version, let me slap that hand! Bad boy, MH go get 'em! 32meg of RAM, I don't know maybe it will run on it, I'm not sure, everyone I know has 64meg and up. Did you load any patches to sdoe? If you did are you sure the files are in the right place and you installed them in the right order? Did you or he try and fly one of the user made planes? Try one of the planes that came with sdoe and try it, if that works then I think the startup file is missing something. First off I'd install DX7.0a(DX7.0 has bugs in it), if you get PCGamer it has DX7.0a this month on the CD or go to ms's home page and get it. If patches were installed in sdoe maybe the best thing is to uninstall sdoe then make sure that there are no files in the folder, then install sdoe again, before loading any patches start sdoe up and see if it runs, then install the patches. If it doesn't run, well thats what you get for burning it

if you open up the error.log file in the fighter squadron media folder (using notepad or wordpad), what do the last four lines or so, say?

I have a system with 32 RAM, just close all programs you dont need, or you'll run out of RAM.

Actually, my V3 card gives my comp a big boost in performance

One other thing... I also use a copied version. Since patch 1.5 does'nt care bout CD copy protection, I run it with no CD. There ain't no difference.
