Hi,I'm running FS: SDOE on software emulation which means that a lot of the planes in the planepack and contestpack cause my computer to crash to desk-top. The long and short of it is that I use a laptop (I know, I know) but I have little choice in the matter as I'm in a phase of my life where I move around a lot so it's basically impractical for me to purchase a desktop. I have a question concerning WHY some of the plane designs crash to desk-top. Is it because they use a lot of polygons, etc. to such an extent that it eats up the memory available for graphics? If this is the case, would it be possible for me to go into the plane designs and 'massage' them a bit, i.e. simplify them to the point that I can use them? If anything, I figure it'll be an gentle way for me to introduce myself to open plane design. The problem is pretty evident in the Bf 109s? The 109E and K run alright from the inside but very slowly and the cockpit interior of the 109F and G are missing things. If I use more than two 109s, the computer crashes to desktop, which is a shame because the 109 is a thing of beauty - and an African mission using FW190s just doesn't cut it. Flash IP: Logged |

some of the addon planes were only made for D3D and Glide, that means you cant run em in software mode. I suggest you go get a voodoo2, theyre dirt cheap now, and you can link em together.IP: Logged |

Flash,I admit I am just too lazy to make separate objects for the software renderer. You have to make 2 objects for each part that are transparent. One to be used for hardware renderer and the other one for software renderer. I can change the 109s so it does not have cockpit reflections for you. I think the Zero causes a crash to desktop because some of the objects for software renderer have bad polygons. It doesn't crash with a hardware renderer because those objects are not used. Army, have you ever tried installing a Voodoo graphics card inside a laptop?? IP: Logged |

Installing a 3D accelerator in a laptop is somewhat problematic. I think with a decent can opener, it might be possible ;-).I was just wondering if 'converting' some of those designs so they'll run using software emulation is a do-able project for someone like myself who's never really considered Open Plane design? What would be the minimum that I'd need by way of software, etc. to begin modifying, designing planes? Thanks for the responses! Flash IP: Logged |

Hi, mposis. Thanks for your offer. However... ...I'm not quite sure if I get the sense of what you're saying. Will getting rid of the reflections solve the 'transparent cockpit' problem or not cause the Bf 109s to crash the game to desk top? Thanks again, Flash IP: Logged |

Hey Flash, I can't help out with your problem, but since you're moving into the modifying of stuff for software emulation, try reposting this in the Tech Talk forum to get it noticed more, alot of ppl in the know just don't come in here to often, put a new heading and ask for what you would need.I think though as a starting point, you will need OPS (Open Plane Studio), a good 3D prog, Max or AC3D are the most popular, and those will get you underway. ~Nat~ IP: Logged |

Flash,I fixed the bf109g and emailed to you. Next one will be the a6m2. This is the first time I used the software renderer and found a lot of problems with the planes I made. IP: Logged |

mposis, I got the zip file that you sent me. I haven't had time to check it out (I'll have to wait until after work).Thank you for the time you took to modify the file. I really appreciate it. Flash IP: Logged |

cockpit interiors with lots of alpha are really bad news when running the software renderer. Alpha is extremely slow and it's entirely possible that some of those planes are running up against hard-coded limits in the sw renderer.IP: Logged |

I have to be very honest here, I never even knew that this was an issue, so it's good that you brought it up Flash, although I very much doubt that the ships etc I build will cause any problems, still, I wouldn't even know what would have to be done to make these software mode compatible, I naturally thought that everything would work, just with much lower detail.IP: Logged |
