ArgonV Pilot	posted 06-28- 07:08 PM Laika, its not the mass murder or nuclear fall-out Im intrested in when using the atomic bomb. Its the historic value and the fact that it hasnt ben done in any other sim. Plus, it just plain looks kewl. (I dropped it over water and the splash reached the upper levels of the atmosphere!) Nuclear (or Atomic) weapons themselves are bad and you (meaning everyone who has this idea)should be ashamed if you were thinking of adding nuclear fall-out and mass murder to SDOE. IP: Logged
Jerry Pilot	posted 06-28- 07:12 PM If bombing your enemy's cities is mass murder and we should therefore ban the types of bombs used, then let's ban all bombs in SDOE. Conventional explosives killed a lot more civilians than two atom bombs. What difference does it make how many bombs you use to do the deed? Fire bombing Hamburg and Dresden killed as many. ArgonV Pilot	posted 06-28- 07:17 PM People tend to forget that this is a game of war (ie: war game simulation) and destruction is part of what takes place in war games (and real war) Also, the only people modeled in SDOE are the pilots and gunners. No civilians are in the game code. There for, destroying houses and buildings and such isnt really that bad cause nothing really gets virtually killed (except the pilots) Im reminded that there are cows, are they killable? IP: Logged

The game simulates combat, so is simulating a bomb that can kill a few dozen people morally acceptable while a bomb that can kill millions is not? I agree that its a political weapon and wouldnt have much value in the game. But if youre going to block out the fact that we're having fun simulating a war that took millions of lives in the first place then you might as well just block everything out. IP: Logged

You might as well make the game as real as you can, besides wasn't there a nuke dropped on Hiroshima? Read your history book folks, I believe this was still part of WW2 wasn't it? If you have ever played Novalogics Lightning3 you can arm yourself with 20 nukes and create new coastlines!! ,,,,Quite cool for a game, and once you drop them your so high up in the sky and the devastation is so great you cant hear the people scream anyway. Just think of them as your worst enemies you would really want to frag. But hey we are all entitled to our own views. IP: Logged

My wife grew up in Richland, Washington where the Hanford project developed the plutonium Fat Boy nuke dropped on Nagasaki. The High School teams are called the Bombers and the school logo is a mushroom cloud. At sporting events and rallies they bring out a replica of the Fat Boy and everyone cheers. Well, she just yesterday returned from a big all classes reunion. She bought a brass Christmas ornament which is a mushroom cloud circled by about 20 engraved bombs! How's that for a good old fashioned Peace on Earth Ho Ho Merry Christmas! IP: Logged

We just simulate plane(s) vs. plane(s) or plane(s) vs. ground target(s). Plane vs plane is OK in any way. Ground targets, I can choose if I bomb civil targets or not, and I do not (I also don't shoot at bailed Pilots or try to kill sister Bessie). Army puke SFC Pilot	posted 06-29- 09:20 AM ok, how to make a-bombs. You take 2 pieces of Uranium 235 facing each other. Put a chunk of C4 or TNT on the outside facing face of the U235. Attach wires to teh C4 and connect teh wires to a electrical detonator, so its a electronically detonated device. If u use non-electrical detonation the device WILL NOT go critical. When the C4 blows the U235 pieces will be pushed together with enoough force to make them supercritical, if the charges blow simultaneously and with enough force. This will make a simple low-yield fission device. The 2nd way of making a a-bomb is making an implosion device. This uses weapons-grade plutonium. For this one you need some tritium. I will not elaborate on the implosion device. Always wear a radiation sensitive indicator and a 'spacesuit' when working with radioactive material, and remember to decontaminate your suit when leaving the radioactive area. ------------------ IP: Logged

It appears to evoke strong feelings, so I recommend we either drop it, or move it to Flame Wars. Don't expect to change anyone's opinion about whether or not it's moral in real life or appropriate in a sim. To implement a powerful bomb you'll have to alter the loadout file. ArgonV Pilot	posted 06-29- 12:59 PM To make an SDOE A-Bomb... Put the Fatboy in your B-17G loadout.ppf file. Find the warhead of the bomb in the loadout.ppf file and change it to 10000 and make the sucker weigh 10000. Now make sure you start off at 30000ft. or you will be desitegrated. IP: Logged

If you had gone thru 5 years of death, destruction, and endless fighting and you had the choice to either send 1000000 of your soldiers to fight 1000000 of your enemies soldiers and drag the war out another 3 years and completely destroy your enemies homeland (thats what ground fighting does) and hope that the casualty list isnt too extreme or if you could end the war by killing less than 1000000 of your enemies people and risk VERY few of your soldiers and not totally destroy your enemies country... what would you do? I read about Nagasaki and Hiroshima people, they still die today and get ill from radio-active-stuff there. However - this is the history, and I think it is and was not "funny" in any way.
