I was wondering...

I got no ruder control on my gravis joystick, but I do have a second joystick.

Is there any way to use the second joystick as a rudder...???

Bonjours!
No prob with that, just buy a Y harness.

If you have a throttle on your gravis you have to modifie the Y.
For your info all pin on the top row of the DB15 plug is used for the x & Y axis of the joystick 1 (elevator & aileron) and button 1 & 2.
The lower pin is x & Y axis (throttle & rudder) and button 3 & 4.
You can easely found all the pinout on the Net.
I have modified a Y harness for a friends who wants to use his pedals for the rudder.

If you want more info on the joystick pinout or other things, send me an e-mail, I have made my own joystick (control stick, pedals, throttle and steering)and everything work very well.

cool....
thanks...
but i thought that rudder pedals were a seperate plug...like a second stick...that you plug into the second game port...

but Now that I know that it is possible i will have to check it out a bit more online...

Next question...

I will be buying a new chip and monitor in the next few weeks...K6 II-500, and 15" monitor (17" if the funds are there)...I have an 8 meg ATI a-i-w pro, and 64 megs ram.
and I'm still on 56K. (can't afford dsl yet )

would this be good enough if alot of people are flying?

Bonjour!

The pedal is plugged on the second plug of the Y.
It's for this reason you lost the Throttle and button 3 & 4 on your main joystick (if you have the throttle on it)

You have to modify the Y to keep the throttle and button active on your main joystick.
I will work on the wiring diagram today and I post it in few days...

Bonjour!
First: sorry for the delay, very busy weeks...

This is the DB-15 plug pinout:

Pin Fonction
1 ground (x1 & y1)
2 Button 1
3 X1 (Aileron)
4 Ground (Button 1)
5 Ground (Button 2)
6 Y1 (Elevator)
7 Button 2
8 N.C.
9 Ground (X2 & Y2)
10 Button 3
11 X2 (Rudder)
12 Ground (Button 3 & 4)
13 Y2 (Throttle)
14 Button 4
15 N.C.

The most easy ways to add a pedal to your joystick is to buy a joystick extension cable, cut the cable, find the wire color to each pin and add the plug a potentiometer to pin 9 & 13. You can use a 100K or 200K LINEAR potentiometer (you can find it at Radio Shack)

I hope this little explication may help you!
I have taken some picture of my joystick setup, i wait to finish my film.. and i post on this topic when i receive my photo.

For pedal building guides go to this site: http://www.theuspits.com/hardware/lew/index.html
