Sorry folks, I am a newbie to this game and this may sound like a really stupid question. But, I cannot take off in mission mode-my plane just idles down the runway. I never can attain enough speed to get airborne. Increasing throttle (by pressing the = button) does nothing. When I am in instant combat mode, my aircraft loses power and eventually crashes. My throttle key appears to do nothing. I have installed all the patches. What am I missing? It's gotta be something simple. Help!IP: Logged |

I just tested this on my laptop seeing as I am at work and the = key works for me though I have to tap it several times. Also the + sign on the keypad works as well. Try tapping it several times and see if that works.IP: Logged |

I have tried and it appears not to do anything. I never get increased throttle. Is there something I am missing? Start engine, flaps, brake release and then increase throttle--right?IP: Logged |

Does the throttle percentage reading in the upper right hand corner change?IP: Logged |

No-I get no reading in the upper corner. Perhaps my keyboard.inp(?) isn't programmed for the = or + keys? It is very strange.IP: Logged |

Does your joystick have a throttle wheel? If we detect a joystick throttle it overrides what you try to do with the keyboard.IP: Logged |

Yes, it does. But it does not function. I turned on my HUD, and it appears as though the throttle is stuck on 10%-it won't increase when punching = or number pad +. Also, 50% appears on and off but doesn't oncrease throttle. What is wrong?IP: Logged |

Jerry, actually I activated the HUD and it stays stuck on 10% even though I tap + and number pad +. However, 50% flahes on and off but the throttle does not increase to that level. Do you have any idea what the problem could be?

This happened to me once but it was because of a utility (CTSJ or something) that desensitizes your joystick. I was tweaking settings and lost throttle control on my joystick wheel. I never use the keypad for throttle so I can't help you there. If like Mighty said, the sim defaults to the joystick throttle then FS is not reading it, just like it wasn't reading it for me. Sounds like some kind of calibration issue. Does the throttle wheel work with other games so you can rule out a mechanical problem with the wheel? IP: Logged |

I don't think it works with other sims I have. It may be a mechanical problem with the joystick, or maybe a calibration problem. I don't think it has anything to do with the throttle problem. I've requested assitance from activision directly on this issue--perhaps they may have a solution. Sounds like a screwy deal, though.IP: Logged |

Sounds to me like your throttle wheel isn't calibrating correctly in Windows, and then it's overriding the keyboard controls in the sim. So the throttle wheel won't actually work, but the sim thinks you have a throttle wheel and won't give you the keyboard input. What kind of joystick is it? You might try changing the controller type in Windows until you find one that will calibrate properly. I suspect if you can get the throttle wheel to work in the Windows controller setup, it will also work in the sim.

Thanks. That may be the problem. Will try when I go home. Do you know how you calibrate the wheel in Controller? I don't recall when I originally calibrated the joystick addressing calibration of the wheel?IP: Logged |

If you want to use the keyboard instead the throttle wheel you can comment out the line in the input file. In your keyboard.inp file look for inpThrottleAnalog = JoystickAxisZ : 0 and put a ";" in front of it, thus: ;inpThrottleAnalog = JoystickAxisZ : 0 Then SDOE will ignore the throttle wheel and let you use the keyboard. Thanks. I may try to calibrate the wheel first--if that fails, I will try your solution.IP: Logged |

I think if you select "3 axis, 2 button" or "3 axis, 4 button" as your joystick type in the Windows controller setup (Settings--Control Panel), the third axis is the throttle wheel. If you have rudder pedals, there is a little check box for that. Of course, if you see your actual controller listed, choose that one first. Basically, if you see the normal little stick box for joystick input and a second little up/down sliding scale calibration thingie, then your throttle wheel is being recognized. If you don't calibrate it, it won't have full travel available in sims, and it will SEEM to be not working.

Thanks. My controller (can't remember the brand here at the office) has a wheel(more like a mini-shift) for throttle and a wheel for rudder. Only the rudder wheel appears to work. Does that change your advice?IP: Logged |

Hmmm. Haven't seen one like that. You may be able to use the rudder wheel for the throttle. Try different selections out of the Windows controller list and see what parts can be calibrated. If you get one that will move the throttle calibration routine, you're set. If not, you need to pick one that has NO throttle axis, so that the sim will not see a throttle and will allow you to have keyboard input. Otherwise you may have to edit the keyboard.inp and comment out the analog throttle line.

I don't think you can use the rudder wheel for the throttle-it is spring loaded so that it returns to center position. Thanks!IP: Logged |

Thanks a bunch. Got the problem fixed. My throttle wheel was not claibrated properly. After recalibrating, it works perfect. I knew it was something stupid!IP: Logged |
