Can anyone help me get a bit more out of my Creative Blaster Banshee (16M Ram) on an AMD K6-2 (3D Now) 300mhz processor. The computer itself has 4M of video RAM on the motherboard (HP Pavilion). I don't ever seem to get any good FPS in the game if there's more than 4 or so planes. I sit around 8 to 15 FPS. That doesn't seem very good to me. I've tried the game in Direct 3D mode and the graphics look like crap compared to Glide. What are some things I can do to get some more out of my card? Anyone with some ideas? Thanks.IP: Logged |

I'm sorry to say this, but you suffer what I and many others did when the sim first came out. The AMD K6-2 chip just can't do the floating point computation well enough to increase your frame rate. You can help it some with more memory, faster hard drives, & updated drivers, but all of that will only buy you a few FPS. You can't break the 12fps barrier without upggrading to a PIII, Celeron, or Athlon. I got an althon 600, and now I do about 60fps. none of the above is true.. sorry to say, well, not entirely.1. AMD Chips do suffer on the FPU, but not as much as is made out, I know some progs that will help the AMD alot, do a search of the General forum for SetK6 it's a prog that is simple to use, and will greatly improve your CPU to Video settings. Read this http://www.fightersquadron.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000975.html Next, look for an overclocker for the Banshee, there are some available. Then, overclock the AMD to 366mhz, I did this with mine before buying the AMDK62-500. 5.5 x 66mhz clock. The onboard video ram shouldn't even be anabled as your using the banshee right? To be honest though, the best improvements you will see on a 100mhz+ board, and the AMDk62500 is a good cheap CPU, now only £40 ~Nat~ IP: Logged |

Thanks Nat. I'm going to have to try that program again. I downloaded it back when you posted the info and it was just too daunting to me. Same goes for Overclocking. If I felt like I could do it easy enough, I would, but when I read about it, it seems so involved and full of possible problems if I miss something. Anyone willing or able to talk down to me and walk me through these things, I'd really appreciate it. I'm not computer illiterate, just overwhelmed by some aspects. I'd love some help.IP: Logged |

QTip, if you want me to mail you with a breakdown of how to do both, mail me, I'll need to know how much RAM you have onboard so I can set the LFB's right, also, what the max clock speed is of your board (66 or 100mhz) and how hight the multiples will go (probably 5.5 maximum), hey, infact, if you tell me the motherbaord, I can probably find a pic of it on the net so I can mark the jumpers you need to alter etc. Anyway, let me know ~Nat~ IP: Logged |

All I know is I fought with my AMD K62-300 for a year, overclocking, adding ram, changing video cards and drivers, and never got over 20fps max. The average was under 20 fps, around 15.I Switched to an Athlon 600 and my minimum fps on an averge online mission went to the 60's. I've gone way over that off-line. There was a FPS survey online. it will show you what others have found to be their optimal results. Hmmmmm...I read the ink and now I'm curious....I still have my k6-2 300. I may hook it back together and see what I can make it do. Thanx for the info Nat
