How many triangles (or vertices in the "vertex-pool") are good for a terrain. Could you give me a range (1000-2000 tris?)

Thankyou !

LK

If you got the time to ask -
Did you know how the modeller/artist who created the maps wich come with the shipped version did the "mesh-optimization" - per hand or with a tool ?

That's almost impossible to define. The rule is always "as few polys as possible to get the desired effect".

For any object, you should build your mesh the way you want it and then make several passes. On each pass, optimize as much as possible but try to keep it looking the way you want. Take a break and come back to it again for the subsequent passes (that way, you might see new ways to optimize).

The original mesh was built use a variety of tools and eventually hand optimized.
