Hi there,

Nice to see there is still a nice SDOE community around...

I tried to reinstall the game on my new box, a Dell PIII with a Voodoo 3 3000. I patched to 151b5 (which I assumed to be the latest one) and plane pack 53 or something + the patch to that...

The video settings looked a bit bizarre, a bit grainy, not as pretty as I remembered and I could not really tell the difference between screen resolutions... then it hung... repeatedly, in external views.. Needed a hard reset every time....

So I de-installed, and reinstalled just the original game... Same story... Hangs after a minute or 2, in external views generally. And the fog looks bad...

Now, before you tell me to RTFboard, I am pretty sure it's not overheating (I can run other card intensive games like porsche unleashed for hours), and I have recent drivers which work very well with everything - and also seem to work for other people with SDOE(I asked this on the newsgroups already). Only thing I haven't tried is the hint about potential soundcard issue found on that board, I'll try tonight. In the meantime, if you have any other ideas....I'm all ears (the game was superb on my old PII Voodoo2, but no dice on the new one)...

Thanks in advance !

GReg.

Greg,

Try setting your display to use the d3d driver. I have almost identical setup to you and using the glide 3d driver, I also lockup a few minutes into missions.

Condor out

Thanks for the reply. I actually tried that yesterday (before I read you post), and it also hung after a minute or so, from inside the plane (so my statememnt about external views was bull). I can't figure this one out, the game was great on my old P2, I cannot run it on the P3! The sound tweaking did nothing....

I guess I'll try one more de-install/ reinstall routine, and then give up and go over to Aces High fly me a Tiffie ! I need my Tiffie dammit ;-)

Greg, this is probably an obvious question so don't be offended but since it's a new box have you called Dell? I know when I got my Gateway they helped a lot with settings to run different software.

Ok, fixed.... Beats mw why this is causing it, but it was the damn sound card, turtle beach montego II or whatever it's called. I almost turned off all hardware acceleration and the game now runs. Tlak about not obvious ! I can't hear a difference, I hope it does not slow down other games now... Well, it's good to have SDOE back !
