How come i only see 16 bits colordepth when using Direct3D, and 32 bits when using the unsupported, buggy OpenGL renderer???IP: Logged |

Because at the time FS was released, there weren't enough 32bit cards to make supporting it worth the effort.IP: Logged |

Yeah, I understand that, but the 32 bit picture in OpenGl was quite impressive. No stripes in the clouds or the props... It certainly looked good. Couldn't you possibly enable this in D3D also, in a patch or something? I mean, if it works for OpenGL (which is quite buggy, unfortunately), the chance is there. And the textures are 32 bit, aren't they?IP: Logged |

Did someone say patch, I think I heard "patch". Maybe they where talking about an air force emblem. No I think it was a game patch they where muttering about. Was that a hint? Is this a hint?------------------ silas Demon's Runway Fortes fortuna adiuvat IP: Logged |

oh, forgot to mention... most of us work in 256 colors actually... you don't notice tthe difference in the game.. believe me.. lolThe terrains are in 16 bit color, but when we re-texture them like the Pacific that Jag did, and Snowy Dover of mine, you come to realise that 256 colors are easily enough.. you only need more if you re doing something special.. but I agree, as time goes by and speeds pick up, 32bit could come in handy somewhere IP: Logged |

Nat: You might be right (hell, no, you are right) but have you seen the 32bit version (in OpenGL) of the clouds, smoke, props, etc? The difference is more than noticable. These clouds with the visible shade stripes and all (not to mention the everpresent props) simply ruin the realistic impression this game would otherwise present. I'm not saying 16bit is ugly but true color is simply superior when it comes to realistic phenomena such as clouds.Sorry for the double post but I didn't find anything about true color rendering on this forum. And yes, this was a hint for a patch. By the way, do you also experience strange visual bugs on the ground units and buildings (and sometimes also on terrain texture)? The textures in the air are all right. Or is this a problem that can be solved somehow? IP: Logged |

I don't mean to rain on your parade Milo, but I have never had that problem. Perhaps your Video card settings need to be adjusted. I have run in D3D and GLIDE with neither giving me any real trouble. MIRIP: Logged |

the texture bug seems to be confined to D3D (far as I can tell) I must admit though that I've given up flying in Glide, it's not really any faster on my V3 2000, but the picture quality seems so much smoother in D3D even with it's glitches, they are both though things that could hopefully be fixed one day..IP: Logged |
