I presume you located Gimp at the War Paint Factory; Zoycite has a nice tutorial there, also. I have no idea what he is talking about ... ... heck, I never could use crayons very well!! But he may be a good one to contact. There are so many talented skinners here ( ?? sounds like a group of Buffalo hunters ?? ) that I am sure excellent help will soon arrive.

When I do skins Maaco, I always use the latest version of the aircraft, just in case it has been altered from what it originally was.
Go to the Fighter Squadron directory and find the plane you want to paint. Example, C:\Fighter Squadron\Media\Aircraft\(plane's name here).
Let's say you want to paint the P-47D. Find the P-47d folder (like above) and open it up.
There is a textures folder there. This is where you will find the .tif files to paint for any Fighter Squadron plane, in the Textures folder of each specific airplane.
Sometimes the .tif files you want to paint have the airplane name in them such as P51d.tif. Other times, you have to search through the .tif files. The .tif files to paint the P-47d are the Main.tif (fuselage) and wings.tif (wings, etc.).
If you get an error message trying to look at a .tif file you can use this program to look at the file and then resave it (same .tif name). http://www.irfanview.com/

Paint away.

I like to backup the texture files I'm going to paint, just so I have them someplace safe.

Hope this helps.
