Any of you expert types care to help me with a few questions?

I've been out of the SDOE update loop for quite some time, and I've managed to get behind on the updates. Further, I've found myself in need of advice in technical questions. Therefore, I'd appreciate any help I could get on the following questions:

1. Once I install SDOE from the CD, what do I need beyond the 1.5 patch? By that, I mean Plane Packs, SDOE Control, etc...

2. If I've got a PIII-450 with 128MB of RAM and a 16MB Banshee, what settings would be optimal for me to get the 'ideal' performance?

3. _How_ do I keep the bloody aircraft from wobbling horribly and wallowing around? I might be used to EAW and sundry FBW sims, but honestly, any of the fighters in SDOE seem like Falcon 4.0's F-16 when the ACS is shot out. Might have my stick configuration a little out of whack, but still...it's like the aircraft has DTs. Gunnery's more of a 'spray and pray' rather than an accurate science.

I went hunting for the 'on-line standard' document, but somehow I managed to miss it. Where's the current version posted? Thanks if you've read this far; I appreciate it. Looking forward to enjoying SDOE again.

This , I hope, is the newest on-line standard. It's the only one I can think of anyway.

Jerry asked:

"Do you have a MS Precision Pro joystick?"

No, I've got a Suncom F-15E Talon. Some of my problems are attributable to trim, but I've not figured that one out either. All responses appreciated.

Thanks,

I've got the Talon and Throttle and it seems to work fine for me. Maybe your zooming in too close on the gunsight? Anyway the wobbling makes it feel real.
You need plane pack 5.3 and the patch 5.3a.

I too have the F-15E Talon, with CH pro rudder petals. I find it smooth and steady. Do you have the head motion option turned on?
This makes a difference in the amount of vibration you see.

Question 2, can't help don't have a Banshee.

Hey all, thanks for the help so far.

Now with the patches and various things installed, I've noticed the primary error that I can't fix. That is, 'bouncing' aircraft. I was looking at the exterior of the Fw 190D-9, and I swear, I could have required one of those 'If the plane's a rockin', don't come-a-knocking' signs. It was just sitting there bouncing up and down like mad on the runway. _This_ is the big problem that I've been experiencing so far with SDOE--that's the vibrations that I was describing.

Any ideas on how I fix this?

Further testing showed that the Fw 190A-4 was sitting quietly on the ground without a started engine, but yet the aircraft was shaking like it was made of Flubber or something. I don't have a clue as to what it is, and I'm totally lost. It's rather annoying, and anyone's ideas are appreciated.

Thanks again,
Dora-Niner

I made the Dora but can't figure out why it is doing this. It will stop bouncing only when the AI or you release the brakes.

Hey, thanks! I appreciate that little tidbit.

Sooner or later, I _will_ get SDOE running right, and perhaps write Scharmer a truly friendly letter on "Why I like Fighter Squadron".

Or not...

Silas,

So the Head Motion Thingy is purely for effect?! I always imagined that it would allow me to pan around the cockpit using mouse or view keys!

I always have thought too that the shaking of the cockpit was a warning of flying very close to stall.

What is correct about these two situations?

Regards,
MW

Yes, it's purely for effect. Well almost IMO; it does shake as you stall and when you dive. I think that anytime you make the plane groan you get the shakes. It just bugs me.
It simulates the head movement or shaking you would receive while flying. I leave it off all the time. I'm a bad enough shot without my head bouncing around.
For looking around I either use mouse panning or the hat switch on my joystick.
