hi guys! have u ever been able to mae a belly landing on the sea or whatever? I always slid 4 a some feet, then blow up!!! U think there's a way out? Why my p 47 prop doesn't use the glide (even the yak 3 doesn't)? last but not least, is it possible to start a mission on the aircraft carriers? I'd like to see nice workin carrier, with arresting cables(i'd like to use the tail hook of my Corsair), but above all the possibility to place planes on it!

so far the problem with water is insurmountable (object inertia + water = destruction put basicaly) maybe one day though...You can currently take off and land from the Akagi, and I think one of the versions on the Saratoga (not sure which) but right now the AI wont recognise aircraft carries as airstrips as these are loaded as a part of the terrain and not as seperate objects.. not sure if this can be fixed at all. ~Nat~ IP: Logged |

Nat, I have some questions, maybe you got answers? How did the Airfields get added to the terrain map in the first place? If you can add a new Airfield to the terrain why couldn't you add a permanet stationary aircraft carrier? Also on a separate subject, the Akizuki, can an object be made to stay 1 foot above sea level? If so maybe a topedo launcher would be feasible. Condor out ------------------

Pete Hawk had a somewhat functional catapult working on the carrier a while pack. I've got a couple of ideas on how to maybe reverse-engineer that into a "barrier" that your plane would recognize, and then by adding some spring-loaded DOFS we might be able to simulate an arresting wire. Haven't had a chance to study the problem much tho.I also have an idea or two about getting a torpedo to work a little more like a torpedo, but haven't had the time to fiddle with that yet either. So many models, so little time... ------------------ --jedi-- IP: Logged |

Condor, I agree with you, it is possible to add a stationary fixed carrier and set the flight deck as an airstrip that the AI would use. I'm very very new to using OPS etc, but from what I can tell the principle is simple and sound, but the doing is likely another thing altogether. Basically the carrier would need to be loaded with the terrain by putting a ref to it in the terrain SM and placing it where you want it, then an airstrip sm would have to be edited to the correct size to fit the flight deck, and placed ontop (or conversly, edit the airstrip SM to look like a carrier to start with). Now the problem is... if you ever try to load a Terrain into OPS you'll see that the thing is just too damn big to work on, I've never been able to zoom out enough yet to be able to rotate the map and actually see it, so the only other way I could see of doing it would be by editing via text... and that I would never be able to do, and those that possibly could do this are pretty busy doing aircraft. The one about torpedos... I've been asking myself the same question.. can the qryaltitude be used in someway to keep an object say 2 ft above water.. I'm not sure and don't know enough to attempt it yet is the simple answer.. if it were possible it would also allow the Dauntless, Beaufighter, and TBF (which should be an easy hack from the F6) to carry and use them aswell. ~Nat~ IP: Logged | |
