Ok, it's not me who got the problem it's a friend of mine but since I want to fly with him I want get SDOE run on his machine!

Specs:
[list]

  • PII 400
  • MSI 6163 VA (VIA-chipset)
  • 128MB RAM
  • 10 Giga HD
  • Guillemot Prophet 3D (GeForce256)
  • Soundblaster Live! 1024
  • MS SW PP
  • ELSA Quickstep 1000 intern ISDN

    Problem:
When he goes for take off (doesn't matter if scramble, mission, training etc.) he can fly for about 30 sec --> 120 sec, after this the game freezes to a still picture - sound (wind) still plays though.

We tried every install/setup possible (clean install, v1.5, w/o PP5.3, w/o MRT10 etc.). Turning off the sound seems to elongate playable duration (2min) but does not fix the problem. Played around with cache size, video settings etc. no success. The game still only runs for a very short period.

So does anyone has a solution/ hint on this subject? I got a GeForce (ErazorX) myself and the game runs beautifully...

    Please help - Kirin out

The catch-all suggestion is to try different video drivers. Windows video drivers are reknowned for being buggy.

The first place to look is your manufacturer's web site to see if they have new drivers specific to that card.

If you already have the latest, try reference drivers from the maker of your chip.

Possibly even before grabbing new drivers you might try reinstalling the ones you have. Windows drivers go stale for some reason. Similar to that, you might try reinstalling DirectX. I've seen that fix crashes before.

    Some other questions:

What plane are you trying to fly?
What mission are you trying to fly?

make sure you follow this procedure on install. from that point forward it's all hardware software config.

    install from CD

    install patch 1.5 (fightersquadron.com)

    install Plane Pack 5.3(fightersquadron.com) (to c:\program files\Fighter squadron\)

Install Plane Pack patch 5.3a (C:\program files/fighter squadron/media) do not go by the readme for 5.3a it's wrong it's the old 5.3 readme.

    Hope this helps.

thx for the quick replies guys...

We scanned the web for this problem and found out that the Prophet3D has some trouble with VIA chipset boards running in D3D. After installing the new agp & vid-card drivers (several times though...) FighterSquadron finally runs stable!!!

Oddly Soldier of Fortune doesn't run anymore... but who cares about that anyway?!
