I've been attempting to fly different squadrons in the single player game without success. Regardless of which country I select in the new pilot setup, the game seems to default to only one squadron for each nation. For example, if I choose England, when I go to the Missions screen, only 101 Squadron shows up in the Squadron drop down box in the screen's upper right.

I noticed a line in the sdemons.ini file that read "Allow any squadron." I edited the value to "1" but this didn't make any difference.

I've also messed around in the Squadrons screen wondering if this might have something to do with it. The only thing I've noticed is that regardless of what squadron you have selected, if you close out and then immediately re-enter the Squadrons area you'll see the default squadron for the country you've selected.

Is there a way one can fly for another squadron in the single player game? Or are you limited to the default? If the latter, that would seem a waste since you can only fly the tempest and spitfire for Britain, etc. Would be interesting to fly the bombers in campaign. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Many thanks and regards from Kuwait.

Kerry

This confused me when I started, In fact I felt cheated.

The answer is that you have to make your own missions. Then you can use any squadron.

Or download missions from the various websites. Jeeves is a great mission builder.

Try the download section here. Good luck. Mission building is great and pretty simple.

Also you can fly the bombers in any mission by jumping planes (F5) and move to any crew position by pressing F7 and then F6 to take control. I know, the manual is hopeless on this.

Make sure the pilot you are using has the same nationality as the squadron you want to fly. You can only choose squadrons that has the same nationality as the pilot.

Many of the shipped missions have only a single squadron for most nationalities.

Let's see. I believe that the Dover mission Shore Battery has two British squadrons, flying the Tempest and the Lancaster. In Rheinland in the Straggler mission the US has two squadrons and the Germans have two or three. Try those missions and tell us what you see.

The Squadrons screen off the main menu is simply for historical atmosphere. It has no effect on what squadron you fly for in a mission.

Not quite true. You can use all those squadrons and fly in them if you create your own missions or download missions from various websites. I know I do. The missions that came in the box were pretty limited really.
