Guys, would you be so kind as to remind me about what causes blocky flack/clouds textures, and what the possible solutions are, some one that d/l my snowy dover only gets blocky textures, I told him that I believe it to be a graphics card texture ram promble, but his system (barring the CPU) out does mine, and I've never had this problem.System: I'm using a Voodoo 3 3000...absolutely no problem with the other terrains...Sdoe runs smoothly with my Celeron 333@375 and 192 Mb ram... Any help you can give me to pass on would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Guys Nat

Thanks Jeeves, I was sure it's a texture ram problem, I did mention to him in my last mail about having too many a/c or bombers included.IP: Logged |

I run a lot of big missions and I have found that if you turn down your resolution and put all of your unnecessary towns/targets on invisible it helps some. But that is only till the action gets hot. If you're dropping bombs and taking flak while your escort is attacking enemy fighters, the system gets overloaded pretty quickly. First I get blocky explosions/clouds, then the sound gets choppy and AI starts slipping and finally the FPS starts to go. Slowly as everything gets blown up or shot down it returns to normal. I've got a PIII 500MHz w/128 SDRAM and I still get it.IP: Logged |

While playing the Straggler mission the other day I got blocky clouds and flack and explosions from the start to finish. Something like 1 B-17 1 Ju-88 2 Typhoons 1 Mustang and 1 FW-190. Also 2 flack pieces and two patrol boats. Running at 800x600 full details on everything. Running on a PIII 500 and 8mb video card and about 10GB hard drive and stuff. SnakeIP: Logged |

The problem is caused by the video card running out of memory. This can happen when you have too many different kinds of AC or vehicles in a mission. It's not caused by the number of aircraft... just the variety of. Different AC load different textures, so having lot's of different kinds of planes in a mission means it has to load a lot of different textures whereas 5 Spits, for instance, all load the same textures from the same library.[This message has been edited by JT (edited 03-18-2000).] IP: Logged |

P3-500, 128meg.ram, Viper V770(tnt2), Voodoo2(i run SDOE in Glide), 10 gig. hard drive.I normally get 60 to 100 FPS in a game. However, with to many fighters(12+) i get really bad hits to my FPS. Subtract 5 fighters and add 3 bombers, my graphics take a crap. Anyway, hope this helps:-) ------------------ Sparky=FC= IP: Logged |
