Topic: New to FS, need to get up to speed

Salute Gents,I just bought FS SDOE, downloaded the recent patch from the main page and need some rundown on the plane packs and getting my game up to speed with everyone else so I can fly online with you guys. So far I am impressed with the sim, only gripe is the ubiquitous fog, but with these FM's I can live with it. Send me info guys, where can I get online and meet with some of you to talk me through what I need, how the game works, and all the newest planes etc. I am an EAW pilot on Kali 181 and looking for something similar, a central meeting place. HELP!

Hi Jeff,
Ok you need lots of stuff so here we go.Plane Pack 5.3a : you can get this at this site I think, PP5.3 is the big one and the patch is 5.3a. You need this for online play. SDOE Control : This is a cool utility made by Spyder which allows you to set the fog distance and various other stuff You can also download other stuff that is non-essentail but really cool anyway.
Like SDOE Chameleon which allows you to swap skins really easily.
You can get various skins anywhere around the place, your choice. You could aslo download all the betas out now for the contest. Theres the Il-6, F4 Wildcat, the Corsair, JU-88C6 and more. There are also some other planes to be downloaded if you want like the Zero, P-51B and WW1 planes and of course Bessie. I dont't know how to put in links here but if you look around the froum you'll see people with their sites link on their posts, like Razer, Naturlich and others. About online play, you might have seen the announcement by JV_44. Every Sunday at 20:30 they go online and everyone can go so be there. Otherwise look in FS servers at the mainpage. UK1 and california12 are usually busy. Thats all I can remember!

You'll find all the "good guys" (they are aswell) on Cali12 around 10pm EST. There are so many sites around for d/ls though I'd not even attempt to list them for fear of missin someone out.. LOL anyway, you can hit my site with the link at the bottom of the mail, and I'v e got some links to other sites from there, although not enough or all by any means, some of us have our own specific d/ls that you wont find anywahere else, on mine I have Snowy Dover (rather big d/l but woth it in my opinion..) and some different skins for some types of aircraft, but you'll usually find most links from reading the messages, those of us running sites normaly have a link to them in our posts.
oh, and welcome to the best online comunity I've seen.. so many great guys here

Salute Gents,OK, got the patch, kewl! Got the Control 2000, thanks Spider! Cranked up my res all the way, YEAH! All I can say is WOW! Coming from EAW with 256 colors and limited res to this is AWESOME. The planes really take the cake. The terrain is the best I have seen of late, the skins are the best, the gunnery seems realistic, and I can't land worth a damn. Keep bending the landing gear, lol. Now for the meeting Sunday, I am involved with EAW setting up an Inter Squadron War on Kali 181 and our meeting for ironing out the details is about half hour before yours, I will come but may be late. I need the new stuff though, and some of the links from the FC page are busted. Love the new planes but can ANYONE fly a Gotha? That thing is about as cooperative as a brick! lol. I WANT that F4U! Is it the six .50 model(F4U-D) or the 4 Hispano cannon one?(F4U-C) Anyway thanks for the help guys, I checked the servers last night and didn't see anyone on there. Can you use Kali with FS? IPX is an option in the game, I think it should work. I may be trying to get alot of the EAW guys to come over to FS SDOE. Can the bombers not only be flown but have a bombsite? If you can bomb with em I got at least a few guys that will fly em. ------------------

I was wondering about the damn landing gear. With the Spit and others you can slam it down on the ground but landing the JU-88 and the P-51 is almost impossible to do without bending the legs. Is that accurate?Also whats is the standard for this Sunday? I've seen the **Important Notice* but didn't really understand it and I also saw the bug topic about this new thing. Whats the deal? Hi Snake,The current version of SDOE is 1.5, the version we are trying on Sunday is a Beta by Michael Harrison - 1.5.1 Build 65 - that last one he built. There are a lot of improvements to the game itself... Shift-F8 gives a fly-by view (very cool), there is an option to hide the enemy planes on the map so you can only see friendlies. The bug where people get kicked to desktop on mission send was fixed. The gun firing rates was upped. There is other stuff I can't remember, but in general it makes the game mor stable online. Go to www.dragonseye.com/FSBeta/ and read Michaels progress reports for the full details. On Sunday we are using this version (1.5.1). You will need this if you want to join us. The download is about 8Mb. I installed it into my regular SDOE folder (you may want to do a separate install if you are worried about trashing anything, but I have not had any problems so far). To run the 1.5.1 version you either hit the FSBeta short cut or run the app.exe directly (you will see the Beta version info on the front page of SDOE). There is a slight bug in the display selection screen - just select the mode you want and exit - if you go back into the display screen it revert to the wrong mode - don't worry, just select the mode you want (i.e. D3D) and exit, you will get D3D.
