I just built a new computer (Athlon 550, SD11 Mothrbrd, 64 megs pc100sdram, Viper II 32 meg agp, SBLive!, win 98, directx7) and Fighter Squadron will not run in D3D. IT says that it cant initialize DirectInput. I've tried directx 6, 6.1, and 7. Either it gives the directinput message or it runs off software mode. I have d3d selected in the menu, and d3d works on all my other games. Is it drivers? Directx? What is directinput? Im stumped! IP: Logged |

Diggler, this may not be relevant but I was getting the same messages so I reinstalled my Sidewinder joystick drivers and it fixed the problem. As its a direct input error I'd guess at it being a joystick or mouse problem-or something like that. However, I dont know much about the technical side of things either so dont take my word for it! Make sure you have the latest drivers for everything. Even though it's a new computer you almost always have to get the latest drivers from the manufacturer's web site.IP: Logged |

Not sure if this helps:-), I built my system about 2 months ago. I got a p3-500(with an ASUS P3B-F motherboard). I installed a Viper V770(TNT2) but had to download the newest drivers to run SDOE in D3D. If u run into an extra hundred bucks, i'd go get a voodoo2 card and run SDOE in Glide. IMHO-SDOE looks better in Glide. Good luck Diggler:-)------------------ Sparky=FC= IP: Logged |

Hi Diggler,You could try running the DirectX diagnostic tool to help you troubleshoot your problem. It's located in the "C:/Windows/System/" directory. Look for "dxdiag.exe". Or, do a find in Windows and search for "dxdiag.exe" in your Windows folder. The program can run tests for everything DirectX and shows errors if any. Hope this helps. ------------------ The cannons always shoot slower... Visit FS Online: http://members.xoom.com/harman_5
