I'm having one hell of a time using rockets effectively. What's the secret?

Are you arming them before firing them? The "A" key by default. Alt-W will bring up the weapons display. Look to see if there's an A or a U (Armed/Unarmed) by the weapon.

And if you are arming them. Try to keep your nose up slightly before weapons release. I almost let the nose of my plane block the target before I release.
The rockets tragectory will drop some after release.
And be shure that you are close enough aim well. But not too close. hehe. And Practice.
Good luck!

As soon as you fire turn sharply to the right or left to get away from blast affects faster. By doing this you can get lower and closer before firing.

Use the unlimited ammo option and you can practice a lot more. I use it all the time (offline). It's the only way I can kill anything.
