Hi,

I've recently returned to SDOE and I'm having trouble taking off since the 1.5 / 5.2 updates. I've tried the P51 and spit 9 and both will yank hard one way, then the next in an erratic fashion during takeff. I even turned the wind and torque effects off but the problem still remains.

I'm no newbie to WW2 sims and this is the only sim I have trouble taking off in. My stick and pedals are calibrated, etc.

Can someone tell me the trick?

Thnx,

Drifter

unless it's a more serious problem, the P51 is a very sensative bird, treat it gently on the stick cause it does like to try and escape, I usally start off slowly to get movin down the runway with 1 notch on the flaps, then punch it up to full throttle and it lifts up fairly easily.. although as you're finding.. keeping it straight and level is always fun.. lol

Maybe someone else will have a better idea

- throttle down
- start engine
- one notch flaps
- release brakes
- throttle to 40%
- steer with tailwheel and rudder until plane gets going fast enough for the tail to rise on it's own
- slowly throttle up to 100% and the rest is easy

The Spitfire didn't use flaps on takeoff according to my spit V pilot handbook, is there any way to make it and the 51 take off as easy as the 190?
That 51 is a pig when the rudder bites, but still better than the spit toppling on its side.

Thanx guys. I'll try everything you offered.

I did find that a little back-pressue on the stick seems to help quit a bit for those planes with a tail wheel.

Spyder, try the 5.3 planes they're easier. The p51 is less prone to spinning sideways on its rudder and the spit no longer drops a wing on takeoff so easy.. the important thing is 40% throttle until the tail comes up the flaps aren't a must-have except for the bombers.

Good news Tail, yeah the throttle is the trick for those planes that are tricky, plus I trim the planes before takeoff which helps enormously too.
It helps keep the wings level to some degree.
The 109g though, I let it find its own path when taking off, urk!

JV44 have a game we like to play on allied pilots who are not too familiar with the Bf109. We swap sides and take bets on how many 109s will get off the ground - rarely more than 50%
