Kesh, SDOE will work with any kind-of internet connection you have, although some corporate connections will cause problems due to firewalls. If you have an ISDN through a standard type ISP you will be fine. You may want to see if DSL is available in your area though - generally more reliable and less expensive than ISDN.

The short answer is, "Yes."

Are you going to get an ISDN "modem" or a router?

I used and ISDN modem until last year. As far was Windows is concerned it's just a fast modem. No special work necessary to get anything to work.

If you're getting a router then you'll be going in through the network adapter in your computer. Either directly or via a hub. If directly, everything will fall into place easily.

If you have more than one computer networked together in your house then you may want to install a firewall or something similar so that you can share one IP address among all the computers.

I currently have a cable "modem" at home and have set up an old 486/33 with Linux running IP Masquerading. Almost everything, including SDOE, works through there without any changes. The only things I've found that don't work are DPlay games and ICQ file transfers and ICQ chat.

There are other firewall and proxy setups that can be used to share an IP address. Some are easier to set up and others get in the way less. I chose Linux because it could do the job on the 486 I had available. I guess I've had it about six months now and it has been pretty much painless.

I agree with Stark. In my area DSL and cable modem are much better bang for the buck than ISDN. That was one thing that prompted me to change.

Cable is great!!!!!

I was using a 28.8 modem, and I ussally got downloads of >3k/sec. With cable, my downloads are up to 250 k/sec.

thanks guys

i cant get a cable modem in my area yet. the cable company has the capacity to give us cable modems but they are still in negotiations with my city. we must be the only town left in michigan without decent cable. as far as dsl, i am in an apartment and not sure if they can modify any of the lines comming in to my place. if thats what it takes. i'll have to do some more investigation.

Well, here in third-world UK, PC-Zone magazine made a big deal about cable and ADSL in their Feb issue, telling us how gaming nirvana had arrived. Utter bollocks.
What they neglected to mention is the tossers at BT are offering ADSL within the M25 and a few major cities only. This is so they can hold-off legislation whilst maintaining the fat profits they make from forcing the vast majority to continue using 56k crap.
Cable..available only at a couple of beach huts on a secluded part of the Welsh coast. A joke? I wish.
