I saw a thread where several people mention using Alt-Tab or Alt-Enter to shrink the SDOE UI to a window. You can do the same thing on startup by changing the command line your shortcut uses to fire up SDOE. Just add /w. For example:

"C:\Program Files\Fighter Squadron\SDemons.exe" /w

If you're running in D3D or Glide it'll change to full screen automagically when you start the sim. For software, you have to hit Alt-Enter to maximize it.
