Hi guys!
I've been trying to get OpenPlaneStudio to work. It just freezes up on me or crashes.
I have tried both the 6-17 and 7-08 versions but both of them just stop responding after a while. They won't load any textures either and I have unbigged all the textures to the relevant dirs and untiffed them also. HEEEAAALLP!

I don't really know what the problem is with the freezing, if you can tell me what module it crashes in (from the details portion of the GPF box) then it would help. Also is it in any particular plane or just anything.

For the textures, OPS references all of the textures to a SDOE media path which you have to define in the Preferences|General section. You don't need to untiff them only unpar them.

It doesn't crash and give protection errors, but it just freezes and if I swap to another window and back, the interface is erased leaving only the frames (task manager says it has stopped responding, sometimes right away, sometimes after multiple ctrlaltdel). It actually worked fine (the latest version) for about fifteen minutes yesterday, so I got a little further. It doesn't matter which plane it is, it can freeze up at anytime, but in most instances when I click Open file. It hasn't given me any protection errors or stackdumps but if it does I'll post it. This is a bugger of a problem and I really appreciate the help. Thanks.

I just had twenty minutes of lucidity where I viewed my unpared copy of a p51d which I'll be converting into another plane. I did manage to get textures loaded, but suddenly

OPENPLANE STUDIO caused an invalid page fault in
module D3DIM.DLL at 0157:566855a0.

I suspect that this problem is unique to each graphics card/directx driver/graphics driver setup? D3dim.dll would be a part of my directX6.1 drivers, right? I have only gotten one "freeze" tonight, so that's better. (Incidendally, I don't call the above a Freeze, but a crash. Am I right?)
I have a Riva Tnt 16 AGp on an Amdk6-2 450mhz system. I get crashes now and then in other 3d apps, but not as often as in ops.

Kraftwerk,

D3DIM is the low level interface into D3D interface. This dunp basically means that OpenPLaneStudio was using D3DIM when it crashed, so I might be passing something invalid to it. Were you doing anything in particular when this happened?

One thing that shouldn't have any effect but you could try it is that I am using the DX7.0 SDK (but only DX5.0 features) so you could try upgrading DX to 7. From what I've heard DX7 is better anyway. As I said it shouldn't matter, but who knows. I might build a debug version if you're still having problems. Its quite a bit slower but it reports a lot more when something happens.

Bryan,
I'll try DX7 as I've heard good things about it on this board. I'm not doing anything in particular when the crash/freeze occurs.
I'll get back to ya after Dx7.
Thanks.

I took the cover off the cabinet and now it doesn't seize anymore. It seems that I've been running excessively high cpu temperatures and running the computer uncovered solved the problem. Could it be that a program so dependent on floating point math goes bananas when the cpu starts to overheat and make errors?
