Hey there. I was cruising past FSHangar when I noticed Diego Lozano's amazing picture of a spit that wasn't long for this world. The part that caught my eye was the dusk effects in the clouds and on the ground. How do you achieve this? What add-ons/patches/tools/editors do you need? What are the appropriate settings for all this? How is nightfighting different/similar? I think it would be real handy if somewhere like fightersquad.com or FSHangar were to create a section dedicated to SDOE's environment (and terrains) since this area is now being explored with more vigor. Thanks, Werner ------------------ Do you support SDOE online? Very glad you liked the pic. You need to get Poodles "Perfect Dark" to do this to the sky. Its a TIFF of the overcast sky which can be painted in Photoshop or whatever paint program you might have. He sent me a step by step tutorial which I believe really needs to be posted! It deals with changing the sky coloring itself from say lt blue to black. The sky colors are infinite! One prob I noticed..The overcast TIFF only shows up in the patched version and the sky color changes only show up in the Beta version. I still have the tutorial if you or anyone else needs it. I strongly agree we need a place where we could go and get an "idiots guide" on this or that...I know I needed it! DiegoIP: Logged |

I think one of the biggest problems holding us back in this area is the lack of a gradated horizon. I know it doesn't seem like a big deal, but it's very hard to simulate dawn/dusk right now because the sky is a flat, unmodulated tone. After all, what is dusk/dawn but the sun going down under the horizon. To achieve that effect, you have to be able to make the sky close to the horizon lighter. But, not only would a gradated horizon allow for realistic dusk/dawn landscapes, it would also allow us to make the sky blue above a thick cloud layer and whitish underneath... provided we had control over the gradation boundaries. I don't know, it just seems like we could kill a lot of birds with that stone. I agree the sky IS very "flat" in color but, you can change the color of the fog and the distance. So you get a more graduated horizon...sort of. Try this Dusk/Dawn color:msnFogColour 200 135 102, msnClearColour 180 140 115, msnFogDist 1, msnViewDist 3. I finally got a color combo that was believable. DiegoIP: Logged |
