I just lived through a 5.1 earthquake that scared me half to death!

I'm standing there getting some food out of the fridge and then... what the? OH NO EARTHQUAKE! It shook REAL good. The apartment was going not only back and forth but up and down too! What a trip, I never felt terror like this before. And yes, this was natures terror.

still biting my nails...

Possibly the most aptly named post I ever read....

REALLY glad I don't live anywhere near a tectonic plate boundary...

There were reports of some minor damage, but thankfully here not one thing was moved, broken, disturbed, etc. For as much as this place rocked I'm very relieved all is fine. I was in the worst place too, come to find out from some websites on earthquakes. They say if you are in the kitchen, get out due to all of the plates/glasses/appliances that can fall on you. But as for me, I must have looked like a deer caught in headlights. I was just frozen in terror and disbelief. I think it lasted about 15 seconds but if felt MUCH longer.

My wife came in and woke me up (she had been in the living room studying for a test) and asked me if I felt the earthquake (crud I wish she wouldn't do that, 'cause then I cant get back to sleep....) She said it happened in two parts.

Would be a tad unerving though.

Heya Pete! Glad to hear you and the family are OK!

My sister lives down in Palm Desert too... probably right near you (on Harris just off Washnigton and Country Club). Dang, I forgot you lived down there or I would have looked you up when I was down visiting my sister the first week of October. Could have dragged somebody who enjoyed aviation to the Palm Springs air museum with me (where I got to stand 15 feet from engine number 4 on the B-17 Miss Angela as it fired up. Awesome sound and sight. It then flew to Chino for the airshow giving us a nice flyover on the way out).

Well shoot! Tell her I'll be right over!

:P

I would like to hook up with you though after all these SDOE years. Definitely let me know when you'll be back down this way.

A real thrill, isn't it, Pete? I moved to Oregon in July of 1994 - 7 months after the Northridge Earthquake (1/17/94 - 6.8Richter - 4:31 AM). Glad to hear there was no damage (other than to your nervous system!).

We lived about 3/4 mile from the Northridge Meadows Apartments - the three story complex that instantly became a two story complex.

We moved to Oregon to experience a normal set of seasons, you know: Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall - rather than the standard Southern California issue of Fire, Flood, Riot and Earthquake.

Momma Nature sure has some interesting moves, eh?

Yeah Pete, all we have to worry about here in Oregon are volcanoes.

Isn't it California that some call the "Acts of God Themepark"?

Although I think Florida could safely borrow that moniker for the next few days...

Yeah, I know people who were close to the Northridge quake as well. I guess the fear I felt on Oct 30 was NOTHING compared to what they went through.

Well on further introspection, the fear was just as strong. A quake is a quake is a quake.
