Ok first off I have to admit that I never donated any money so I have no real reason to bitch, sorry I'm not a very well off guy right now.

BUT.

On the cover of the Toronto star (I don't care who owns it or if it is a liberal or conservative paper so screw off with that crap) The story was that of the 530 mil donated for the terrorist acts on sept 11.

200 mil ISN'T going towards helping the families and victims.

Its going to totally different red cross programs and just general red cross admin cost.

That means that a little over half of the money collected for the tragedy is actually going towards it.

Does anyone else find this a bit insane?

People we expecting the money to go to helping victims not funding the red cross in general.

Ok maybe it wasn't the toronto star, I can't find it on the website.

If I find the link I'll post it.

I think there are going to be some big big scandles out of all this. Last I heard over $1 billion had been donated from all sources, not just the Red Cross, and very little is getting to the families. The President of the American Red Cross has already been fired. No telling how much has gone to bogus "charities". Hard to say at this point how much is bureaucratic paper shuffling and how much is rip-off. If they catch any scam artists or thieves, torture is too good for them.

The Red Cross has had trouble over the years.
I remember WWII vets who hated them. The biggest gripe I heard was the Red Cross charged
them for cigaretts that were donated by the
cigarett companies specifically for military
personnel who were fighting the war.

The only thing I'm giving them is blood.

The WWII story is true but there was a reason. Each country has it's own Red Cross. (Muslim countries have the Red? Crescent). The European Red Crosses wouldn't let the US Red Cross give out free donuts and cigarettes because the European countries (who were really hurting financially and didn't have "donated" goods to give away) had to charge their soldiers. They didn't want to look cheap compared to the American Red Cross.

Well on NPR (or BBC World Service..can't remember) there was a story that said people who'd gotten money from charities wouldn't get as much relief money from the Government. Dollar-for-dollar those people's Gov. benifites would be reduced by the money charites provided. The Charities were worried they wouldn't get more dontions...they need all that money to continue to roll in to pay out big bonuses.

It was all a big scam!!

I've been waiting over a month to say that!

You'll be paying more in taxes (just after making that helpful donation to the RC).

Most of the people who needed help (ie poor) were getting less than the rich basterards who left diamond-draped widows. The amount given out was proportional to need (ie bills due). So a rich person could get $50,000 in assistance while a janitor's wife and six kids might get $500.

Why people believe they much give MORE to the rish is beyond my frail brain.

"Mummy was so distraught Daddy died that she had to spend $200,000 at Tiffiny & Co to feel better".

Yep, I knew a guy who was on the Dieppe Raid. He walked off the beach with 8 bullet holes in him, one of which was a compound fracture of his leg. Don't ask me how. He didn't know either when the MO asked him about it when he got back on the ship. That's when he was told about the leg wound.
Anyway, Johnny had no use for the Red Cross for wanting money from guys coming off a boat after a raid. The Sally Ann on the other hand could do no wrong because they provided the same donuts and coffee at no charge.
