We've had three in the last few days, probably all hoaxes. Scumbags are going to have a field day with this, and there are plenty of that sort over here.....IP: Logged |

and in the rest of the UK...one in Liverpool already, plus one in London...and another one today. I work for the Post Office in the UK... so we get the brunt of this sort of stuff. Let's face it... it's a bloody funny trick. Fill a package with talc, washing powder etc. and bung it in the post to scare teh living daylights out of some poor sod who see's the stuff leaking out... oddly enough....no-one round here is laughing.... The charge should be treason in times of war. By tying up emergency forces they are aiding and abetting the enemy. It should be treated as such.IP: Logged |

Smokey - Agreed. And punishment for an act of treason in a time of war is....[This message has been edited by Snickers (edited 10-17-2001).] IP: Logged |

Anything from hard labor at Levenworth (sp?) to death the last I knew. The punishment depends on the amount of damage done to the war effort by the offender.[This message has been edited by Smokey (edited 10-17-2001).] IP: Logged |

Gov. Pataki's office tested positive for anthrax. I had dinner about 2 blocks from there on Monday night. Great. I can't wait for bin Laden to be "making friends" at Rikers.IP: Logged |

I just love the way our House of Reps got scared, packed up and went home while the Senate is remaining on the job. I think the House made themselves look bad.IP: Logged |

Even worse, I heard Pataki say that even though he isn't going to have himself tested for Anthrax exposure, he is going to take Cipro prophylactically. What a dunce! Antibiotics are serious drugs and are not supposed to be taken unless you test positive for exposure or infection. In other words, you don't take them as a preventative measure. Cripes! If doctors let people needlessly pop antibiotics, they run the risk of cultivating super resilient bugs that will rival the death toll of any large-scale bio-attack. Anyway, some interesting facts about antibiotics can be found here... http://nutrition-help.com/Health_Concerns_Sore_Throat.htm

Yes JT, I had the same thoughts. Can you imagine a drug resistant anthrax bug?The more I think about it the US House's actions border on cowardice. This really pisses me off. I can imagine the terrorists or whoever having a good laugh about shutting our congress down. BTW has this ever happened before in our history? What an example for our young men and women in the military who are being called to lay their lives on the line. [This message has been edited by Smokey (edited 10-18-2001).] IP: Logged |

Yep even we have had an antrax scare. In an TINY village outside of our city, the post office was shut down. Come on, terrorists attacking a tiny Canadian villiage 5 hours north of anything anyone cares about? LOL About the anibiotics, Yep TOTALLY RIGHT JT. I'm trying to limit my own and my sons use of them. I totally also don't understand all the antibiotic soaps and srpays. Thats just stupid. Your never going to kill 100% of them so what happens when the come back and that stuff doesn't stop them anymore? Stupid humans. Just when people and doctors started to realize we can't just throw antibiotics at everythign we get all this stuff. I realize they arn't the same thing but still, plane soap has worked and will continue to work just fine. The cleaner we make the world, the cleaner it has to be for us to live.

Little known fact about those anti-bacterial soaps and creams (hey- what do you expect- I teach biology )-- they only have the smallest amounts of the anti-bacterial that is needed for them to be legally called "anti-bacterial"....so what does that mean-- the bacteria that is actually good for us gets killed off, and the more resistet "bad" bacteria is unaffected. Seems that the House is just lazy maybe... I think they could meet elsewhere like the senate, right? But I don't think that it would be smart do just ignore common sense and have all of our house members be heroes and get Anthrax. Yea, that would show the terrorists! Just like the Bush/airforce1 thing on the 11th. It is not brave to be stupid. There is no point to bravery if it helps the enemy more than you. Otherwise, the braver men would need no tanks or guns, just bare hands. I don't think the House is scared, just overly practical. I do think that meeting elsewhere would give a better message - even if it is a big pain. IP: Logged |

The threat was to a Senator. The anthrax was in Daschle's office and an adjacent office. The Senate is still in session. Are the Senators being stupid by carrying on their work? I believe the house, at the very least, over-reacted. What a laugh, Bush is telling everyone to go about their normal business while our representatives are running home to hide under the bed.BTW just heard on the news that this is the first time in our history that this has happened
