Today it has begun.... Cruise missiles (from what I understand, a _lot_), FA-18s, F14s, B1's, B52s and more were launched at the Taliban and the terror camps.... Targets? Anti aircraft batteries, fuel depots, the camps themselves. Where the Taliban forces have been digging in, B1 and B52s. Communications centers and obviously many other things I dont know about but you can bet the tanks and forces of the Taliban that were arrayed against the Unified Front in the north were also high on the list.... Let me change the first line... We didn't begin it. So, Now it continues....

About time we give 'em hell! From what I've heard, Norway is in too, providing planes and soldiers. I just found out that we have a new bunch of special forces, kitted out with the latest American and British equipment, and using H&K G36 SMG's. Hope they get to join the fun! IP: Logged |

I saw some of the grainy green-screen footage earlier on CNN. Well, here we go...lol, some interesting articles in the paper today, apparently the Defense Minister and backbenchers from the UK and Germany have all said our military is in pathetic shape but our top general says its not, and that we'll be able to fulfill any role asked of us. Reassuring, isn't it? Werner ------------------ Abbeville Field: Dedicated to the SDOE Experience. IP: Logged |

I heard on the radio (dont get TV) that the UK (surprise ), Canada and Australia have also comitted men and equipment (though not necissarilly to this assault...)Heard bin Ladens prerecorded response (it was pre-recorded because it was filmed in the daytime, but it was still night over there...) to our attack. Here is a guy in full camo, an assault rifle hiding in a cave calling us terrorists.... YUP, lets all run out and embrace his lifestyle.... And then one of my fovorite quotes: "Abdullah, the single-named spokesman for anti-Taliban northern alliance in Afghanistan had predicted U.S. military action would come ``very soon.'' Asked how soon, he looked at his watch and asked, "What time is it now?" (This was said yesterday I believe....) ------------------ Snickers =FC=

He certainly does! My wife keeps calling him 'President' Blair as she'd rather have him at the helm! For the record, as I understand it, British participation today included use of the base at Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean and cruise missles from the fleet submarines HMS Trafalgar, HMS Triumph, and HMS Superb. If the SAS has one thing going for it, it's that sadly they have a large body of practical experience to draw upon from their participation in Northern Ireland over the past 30+ years. Hopefully the old saying that "Armies don't learn from other armies, they have to learn things the hard way for themselves" won't hold up in this case and that the 'military bravado thing' doesn't get in the way of US forces taking some good advice from other units (not just British ones) who have extensive first hand experience in dealing with terrorists. ------------------ Be seeing you, 3dp Visit RAF Harkness! Unfortunatley that experience comes at a cost especially in N.Ireland - literally:Recently the European Courts of Human Rights has ordered the British govt. to pay compensation to the families of terrorists killed in a particular incident that occurred some time ago in N.I. (these men were intercepted, fully armed to the teeth, on their way to an R.U.C station with the firm intention of dispatching every last officer there to a violent death, irrespective of the mix of religion of the officers. They were shot dead by members of the security services as they were about to carry out the attack) - I think it was deemed as unlawful killing? Yeah, right. Would Europe have asked those same families to pay compensation to the families of those officers killed if the attack had suceeded? Would a case even be considered in Europe? I think not. The only people who win here are the lawyers. Sorry for coming off the thread. IP: Logged |

And yet the Para Regiment won't hold their hands up for bloody Sunday. Jonners, this place is so fucked up, people are brought to book for acting justifiedly (in the case you mentioned), yet crimes go unpunished. Nobody wins in this one, except as you rightly say, the lawyers, (well except for Rosemary Nelson, lawyer from my home town of Lurgan, who was blown up for being too involved. Security forces are suspected of collusion too) See this place is just too fucked up IP: Logged |

You're right Burkey - both sides have grievous issues to own up to...Shouldn't really make judgements, not without living, working or visiting N.I. Just hope the agreement can live up to the great expectations placed upon it...heres hoping - theres' a lot to change. IP: Logged | |
