hey guys, I have just received this:DDR 256 mb 1.2 Ghz ATHLON TBIRD-RadeonVE-266 mainboard: K7VTA3 I'm hardware illiterate to a high degree, is this a good basis for a good system? I have a Geforce 2 mx 64mb, is that a much better card? Is it a good motherboard? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks IP: Logged |

I have a GeForce 2MX with 64mb ram as well, it's an ok card, I like it a lot. It has the slowest clock speed of the GeForce 2 series, but since it's got 64mb ram it's not so slow as some people say. I can run all the newest games at max screen res (1280*1024) with full detail in all games, and it runs very smooth. While you're at it, if you go for that card, get the GeForce Tweak Utility from www.tweakfiles.com it's simply the best tweaker available, and makes overclocking and tweaking a lot easier. Just my humble opinion.IP: Logged |

Burkey - That is the base for a very good system. Weak points are the motherboard drivers, and heat. Make sure you have a case that is well cooled and that your motherboard drivers are up to date. If you have a add on sound card, to avoid hassles, you might want to make sure it isn't a SB Live. I am not familiar with the motherboard itself, but it has to be a VIA chipset, so if you were to have any problems, chances are it would originate there. But those are minor things...you've got the engine for a screaming PC...just need to add the steering and wheels now. I just built my new one, using all my parts from my old Abit BX62 machine. PIII 933 to start, Abit ST6-R motherboard, Antec 1030 case. So far, I really like it. Enjoy that thing! Oh, and with tweakfiles gone now, for those utilities, you can check www.guru3d.com/ or www.3dspotlight.com/ for GeForce related tweaks and programs. I am unfamiliar with the Radeon. ------------------ nealg=FC=

Sorry, I didn't realize that Tweakfiles was closed. I can send you the GeForce Tweaker if you want to, it's not very big, only 330 kb.IP: Logged |
