Well, in the recent months I have found that Computers are becoming...... obsolete. Wait, wait, hear me out. Computers are soooo hard to maintain!! I've begun to love the simplicity of buying a Console (for considerably less, and graphics surpass computers IMHO) and just being able to slap in a game and have it run!! On a computer you have to download driver after driver, then you have problemswith Joysticks!! DAMN!! I just bought a $70 joystick and I can't get a BIT of help from Thrustmaster, I am about to do away with ALL of my gaming needs regarding a computer. I will use it for internet, but not for games. NO MORE. Remember the good 'ol days?? You installed a game and then that was it!! It ran, but now, every users computer varies, and its so hard to make a game that will run well on ANYONES computer. Then, by the time you upgrade its obsolete!! GRRRRR!!!! So, I bid you goodbye, as I hate computers. XBOX, here I come! Halo, I await thee.------------------ Disney's Dinosaur, my passion, my love, my life. Think Im obsessed? You're right. 2 Quotes I live by...... "Somethings start out big. And somethings start out small. Very small. But sometimes the smallest thing, can make the biggest changes of all." ~~ Plio in Disney's Dinosaur "And if we can only step aside, and trust in nature.... life will find a way." ~~ John Hammond in Jurassic Park: The Lost World IP: Logged |

Remember the old days?!?!? LOL! The old days meant allocating high memory and making boot disks. The old days meant looking for VESA drivers and tweaking settings to get your game to load. The old days meant games changed speed based on how fast your computer was.Consoles are so much better, right? Well, they are for a little while, usually less than a year. The Playstation was AWESOME in 95. The PC looked pretty lame in comparison. Then the voodoo 1 card came out, and you could play Quake in high res 16 bit color. Then the Playstation started to look kind of crappy. The same will happen with the Xbox, sooner than you think. IP: Logged |

Aladar, if all you do is play games then I dunno why you have a PC to start with. Get rid of it and buy whatevere console turns you on.Computers aren't becoming obsolete obviously, just boys that have one just for games are realising they'd be better off with a console. From a personal perspective, if you could show me a console that will allow me to use forums like this, browse the net, send and recieve e mails, upload and download programs, do 3D modeling work like with 3D studio Max, scan images, work on them, and print them out, write documents and email or fax them anywhere in the world, then maybe I'd buy a console aswell IP: Logged |

HEY! If they didn't break down regularly a lot of us would have to find real jobs. Now fall down on your knees in front of your picture of St. Bill and pray for forgivness.IP: Logged |

Nat, the funny thing about your comment is that everything you listed except for 3D can be done with a very cheap computer. My brother still uses my old Pentium 200 to do all those things, and run AutoCAD. It seems as if modern computers are WAY more powerful than we need them to be.Manufactures could offer something like this for $300-$400 dollars and it would fit the needs of 95% of computer users. (I got mine as a loss-leader for $100 and put the harddrive in myself). Pentium 200, 128 MB ram, 6gb HD and a tiny footprint. IP: Logged |

Lothar, this is very true! I built my sister a P100 for her little daughter to tinker on and learn PC's, it can run eveything she needs it to, and other than serious games it'll do everything my little "super" PC will do. Lets be honest, it's games that are realy pushing PC developement. I put MS office 97 on her P100, as I have it on mine, on my maching the programs start faster, but her's will still do all the same stuff as mine.IP: Logged |

er.. tiny footprint??? LOL, yep it sure has (looks cool btw), my PC here is on a 6'x3' pine table, and needs all of the space, the 22" monitor take up most of it on it's own! but hey, I never need to turn on the heating in this room LOLIP: Logged |

Games are the biggest market and drive the video technology but pornography is why we have high speed internet access. If it weren't for all those nekkid 25 year old teenagers we still be on dial up 2400 baud modems.IP: Logged |

Correct me if I am wrong, and I could well be as I know very little about current consoles. Can they come up to the resolution of PC games? I mean can a console run 1200/1600? Not on an average TV for sure! My brother had a PSII and I watched him play a racing game on his Sony 32" TV and it was sad. The fuzzie, noisy picture at low rez sent me back to my PC for some 21" ViewSonic PT810 high rez flying. So, if the consoles cannot play at high rez, why would you want one? Again, correct me if I am wrong.

a TV can't produce the same quality picture as a monitor. A TV can only reproduce an 800x600 picture, this is because TVs use lines to build a picture whereas monitors use pixels. A TV is fixed at 40x40 lines, so you see a better picture on a smaller TV, the bigger the TV the wider the lines are and therefore the worse the quality. Hopefully now that digital TV is becomming the "norm" they will think about producing a TV Monitor so that we can make the most of it, but then, I wouldn't like to see it's price tag.IP: Logged |
