Forgot to thank the other great allies in this matter that have made some progress. Many thanks to Germany for the charges of two for 5000 murders. To London England Law Enforcement that quashed a cell threatening additional terrorism. Many thanks to the French in Paris that did the same, I salute you my good friends. We all have the same colors in mind!P

It's always amused me. The total lack of knowledge on the part of Americans about Canadian geography. I heard that a lot of American people on the diverted aircraft that ended up in Gander, Newfoundland had absolutely no idea where they were. I would guess that most WW 2 Air Force vets would know but really. On the other hand, I know Canadians that don't know where Gander is either. They think it's a boy goose. We still hear stories about Americans hitting the border in July and they ask where the ski slopes are. Although, this may be one of those 'urban legends' we all hear about. The reality is that your education system sucks. Here, American History is a high school course. TV and movies not withstanding. This is not a dig. Nor is this a snide comment on your Presidents faux pas during his speech to your Congress. That's his speech writer's fault. And I suspect he's kind of busy. It's ok. General Powell sorted it out today. Don't worry, we're sharpening the stick(the CF only has one and they have to share it) as I type this. But don't expect much. Our idiot politicians have been deliberately gutting our military for 40 years. Our troops are the best but they have nothing to work with. Oh, and a note of history. It was Canadian Airborne Pathfinders that were the first Allied troops on the ground on 6 June, 1944. Also ONLY the Canadian Army took their D-Day objectives on 6 June, 1944. During WW 2, the RCN was the third biggest navy in the world. Right after the RN and USN. There, now I've vented. [This message has been edited by Sunray (edited 09-21-2001).] IP: Logged |

Sunray, you are absolutely right about the educational system in the US. Most American students don't know squat about world geography or world history or world politics or even basic economics. This has been proven time and again on tests given students all over the world. It didn't used to be this way. Something terrible has happened and it's going to bite us in the ass someday. Do a little research DanW, I won't do it for you because I have already read the reports. There have been numerous artlcles over the past few years about how poorly US students do on these subjects compared to the rest of the developed countries.Or you can hide your head in the sand. Your choice. [This message has been edited by Jerry (edited 09-22-2001).] IP: Logged |

I find it hard to believe that any of you are a product of and educational system. This thread was not meant to be a battle zone on geography but to thank our allies, take your fight outside and who really give a fook where the hell Newfoundland is. Sunray do you know where Zion or Cypress or Dry falls is, I didn't think so! Give me a break guys...P IP: Logged |

Psi, all we need is a little linkage here. In order to thank our friends all over the world we have to know where they are, right? IP: Logged |

Seems Jerry and DanW got lost! Somehow I find their knowledge in geography lacking as they are here doing battle in a "Thank you" post instead of Flame Wars! IP: Logged |

I'm not pissed, I'm amused. Etobicoke is the center of the civilized world. It's the west end of Toronto. (Which is bigger than most US cities but with fewer of the problems.) I know because I was hatched and raised there. And why is it ya'll are so impressed when somebody graduates from high school? Just curious.

*spits drink all over monitor* And I thought people from other parts of Ontario were kidding when they said Torontonians figure themselves to be at the centre of the universe. Werner ------------------ Abbeville Field: Dedicated to the SDOE Experience. IP: Logged |
