Outstanding. Lifted my spirits just listening to the man. IMHO right up there with FDR on Dec 8th '41 and Churchill during the summer/fall 61 years ago.wtg Blair too, man I wish we had a PM like him, what a huge improvement that would be. If we're going to start bashing people here, I'd say move it to Flame Wars. I see nothing wrong with congradulating Mr Bush here, but to bash others is not cool, especially if it's supposition about what someone may have been like in this situation. Many Bush supporters would be horrified here if the situation was reversed and those of us on the other side of the fence were trashing what he might have been like. Please give us the same consideration we are now giving the president. We are overwhelmingly behind a man we didn't vote for, and in this forum, I'll leave it at that. I would like to think, that had the election gone the other way (Bush winning the popular and Gore winning the electoral) and we had a different chief executive, you would be behind him in this time of crisis as we are behind the current incumbent, despite the events of Nov-Dec 2000. ------------------ Be seeing you, 3dp Visit RAF Harkness! I would be behind Gore 100%, not a question. What we all forget is that we have much more in common than we have differnces. We do have differnces, and although they are small they seem huge at times - and I suppose this helps make the world go 'round, but after the last week, our common ideals should be in clear focus.I loved Bush back when he was a maybe candidate... and I was happy to vote for him... but I do think he let me down a bit over the last months. But I was VERY impressed tonight... that was the Bush I met. I do think that the press have been very easy on Bush from the start... and the support he has now from the other party is wonderful. I don't know he just seemed to be saying stuff that we already knew. I guess it was ok for drumming up support. I really can't get impressed by speeches because they are all written, now a speech right out of your head is impressive. I found all the clapping annoying also, I wanted to hear what the man had to say (or should I say his speech writters) and it took forever for them to stop everytime they started. He spoke pretty good, I can agree with that. Some of the lines sounded cheesy though. I thought there was a point to it, but after I while it seemed there wasn't and I changed to Will and Grace and LMAO. IP: Logged |

People are funny... they really think all those old famous speaches were off-the-cuff LOL. It takes thought to create a great and important speach... who wants to hear a guy chat like he's the host of a talk radio show? With a speach of that importance, you can't afford to say the wrong thing by mistake - and no one- no matter how bright and careful - is perfect. Addressing the nation (and the world) has a purpose - it is not just a time to show off that you are Mr. cool speach guy... it is to convey ideas - THAT is the goal, and this Bush did with excelence. We are a free nation - I don't want to know what Mr. Bush is going to do about the situation, I want to know what WE are going to do about it! His job is to manage... manage the process and the creation of the words... and deliver the words to us. I don't want an evening at the improv... that we can leave the those professionals. ------------------ -Sv Wings with Wires [This message has been edited by Sv (edited 09-21-2001).] IP: Logged |

Nope Jerry, I just wasn't hearing anything new. And I was sick of all the clapping, Like I said I wanted to hear what he wanted to say not listen to a bunch of yes men clap. And I didn't find him acting like the shit, he was acting just fine, he was just being overly cheesy about it was all. Sv Ok, like I said if you want to praise him for delivering the speech well, then I can agree that he wasn't stumbling over his words as he sometimes has. But I just can't praise the speech because it wasn't his and it really wasn't all that great.
It got his point across, thats it. It wasn't awe inspiring in anyway. So did he write one word of that speech? I'm not attacking Bush, Like I said he delivered it well. I just didn't see anything to get all excited about. I figured we all knew all that stuff before he said it. [This message has been edited by Spanky the Mad Dog (edited 09-21-2001).] IP: Logged |

What you don't understand Spanky is that we did NOT know all that stuff! This was our declaration of what we are going to do... I found it to be very detailed and well thought out.Did you listen to it? Maybe we need to give a quiz to people afterwards... He said allot. It is not so much the speach itself that is important... it is the content of the speach - what we are going to do. Maybe Bush did not write a single world, I don't know, but I am quite sure that the plan is lead by him... and from what I know about Bush, the approach is very Bush-like... business like and practacle... he is a "get to the point" kind of guy... that is why I always liked him. Ok I guess some people got something out of it. I thought almost all of what he said was a given. I'm not saying it was't needed. I just wasn't learning much new. And I didn't see anything to praise him for. Its his job right? What ever, like Snickers says I'll let off... IP: Logged |

Good speech if you like speeches. As far as I'm concerned the time for talking is over. I want to see Bush's actions. Right now I'm not seeing much.IP: Logged |

Nope Dan I guess not. Like I said, I can see the need for it. And I can see saying he did a decent job delivering it. I can't see praising him like he is some master of words. IP: Logged |

Hell you can't even see past yer nose Spanker. For one that doesn't understand why the West would find need to retaliate against this unprovoked attack on freedom how could we expect you to understand simple English. P IP: Logged |

PSI, when did I say not to retaliate? I said I didn't think an all out fullscale land war would do anyone any good. Sunray, you mean have I been in the military? If thats what your asking I have already mentioned all that in Flamewars. No I have not, I have thought about it. But have travelled a different path in life, I have thought about joining the reserves at some point. [This message has been edited by Spanky the Mad Dog (edited 09-22-2001).] IP: Logged |

Apparently you dont even read what you write (or if you do you don't give a rip). I sent an email that was polite and explanatory. (As was your Email response). If you really want to continue in this train Spanky, then meet me in Flame Wars and you better find something a whole lot better than NOMEX overalls, cause the gloves will come off. ------------------ Snickers =FC= Thou shalt maintaineth altitude, lest the earth rise up and smite thee.
