I borrowed a Thrustmaster Force Feedback Wheel from a friend of mine, and I tried to install it. It comes with two plugs, either serial or USB. I have a Logitech stick installed in the standard gamepost, and when I tried to install the wheel (with pedals), it said that it couldn't find a device connected to blah blah blah, so I downloaded new drivers, and that message got away. I could now open the Thrustmaster FF Steering Wheel entry in Control Panel - Gaming Options, and view the options. But no input from the wheel is registered. The strange thing is that, whenever I unplug the Logitech joystick from the gameport, it says that the wheel is not connected too, even though it is. And when both are connected and I open the steering wheel control panel, no input from the wheel is recognised, but if I press a button on the joystick, that shows up in the steering wheel control panel as a button press, even though it comes from a totally different piece of hardware.

First you need to unplug your joystick(with the pc off). Then go into your Control Pannel/Gaming Options and remove your driver for your joystick too. Now, plug in the USB wheel. Windows should read the wheel as soon as you plug in the wheel. The most important thing is removing the joystick driver. You can always install the driver back because windows doesn't really delete it. I switch around all the time between a joystick and wheel.

On a side note, I could never find MA, but I'll keep an eye out for it for ya.

You telling me you keep on having to install and uninstall the driver just to switch from wheel to joystick?

Thats messed and it should't be like that.

You might have to swap device numbers in the control panel for joysticks. but thats about it.

I tried swapping device numbers as well, but no go. I also thought it should work to have both things plugged in at the same time, but I'll try to remove the stick.

I found out that when i go into Gaming Options - Controller ID's - Port Driver Assingment, and try to select a port for the wheel, no USB or serial port is available. Where do I go to get new USB drivers for my VIA mobo??

Whats the make and model of your board?

Via is just the chipset maker.

Make sure USB and serial ports are turned on in bios too.

I got the newest version of the VIA 4in1 drivers, and a USB patch from VIA too, and it works all right now.

Well I shouldn't have said "uninstall", it's more like remove the joystick drive from the list box. It's not a big deal. It is less of a pain than to swap device numbers. If you are not using the device it shouldn't be loaded. The more devices you have loaded the more strange problems you will have.
