Sorry you are still just connecting at 33K, Windoze is reporting you com port speed not your connection speed. You need to change a setting to get it to report your connection speed, can't remember what though.

It doesn't matter like he said its just reporting the port speed.

I always left it on that. Never figured I could do much about the actually connection.

Do some test downloads to check what your real speed is.

Yeah, if you can download a bit faster, leave it be. Depending on where you are, ADSL is a reasonable alternative to SDSL or Cable. However, it also depends on your ISP. If their ADSL is any good it's much better. I'm finding the one I have isn't that great. Better than dial up but I think the software is crappy.

Sunray, I'm guessing your using PPPOE?

There is alternative software you can use if so.

I'm using sympatico DSL, and I don't mind the software but there is better freeware ones on the net.

Also Windows XP (which I already hate BTW has built in support for PPPOE DSL connections so you wont need any extra software, the OS will take care of it.

And my take is to get a LinkSys router. They have PPPoE build in, a firewall, DHCP and it's also a four port switching 100MBps hub. I can't say enough about this thing, it sped up my access and now setting up a machine is as simple as plugging it in.
