Seems to be a lot of self-conceived ideas. I did a little searching on the net. How about the facts and some interesting reading: About the creation of Israel and many of the Arab nations. http://hallindseyoracle.com/html/summaries/september/09.06.01/history_unrevised.htm A time line of Israel: http://www.jajz-ed.org.il/history/body1.htm

Good research rattlesnake. I hope Spanky reads at least the first one and then tells us again how Israel "stole" the land from the Palestinians. [This message has been edited by Jerry (edited 09-14-2001).] IP: Logged |

Very interesting stuff. Its all Israeli propoganda. Naw just kidding, it is really a good read. I personally want to learn more about the whole thing. I do think that trying to figure out who owns land, and just going back the the oldest or last owner is flawed. The fact of the matter is it seems some people were displaced. And they don't like that. What I really want to know is why can't they just get along, what is wrong with living beside someone who is of a different religion? We all do it everyday, and we don't all pull out guns and crap. IP: Logged |

Four years ago a piece of property to my West was sold, before it was sold it was surveyed and found to have inaccurate fence lines. When this new guy just had to have his fence line accurate and therefore moved his fence the 3 feet he had coming. I refused and now there is a 3 foot greenbelt between our common properties. I stopped they infantile bickering with NO effort, can they...IP: Logged |

If the Arab world, Palestinians in particular, hadn't sworn to destroy Israel over the past 50 years and continue to follow this course then maybe some peace could be negotiated. Would you want a neighbor living next door to you who wanted to kill your family? This is what we are asking the Israelis to do when we say they should give the Palestinians their own homeland. The Israelis want peace as much as we do. The Israelis have never established the destruction of their neighbors as a national objective like the Arabs have against them. However, the Israelis will not tolerate constant attacks and threats and they fight back. Wouldn't you? Well, maybe not some of the people posting here, but most of us would. To continue the house metaphor...If my neighbors were all gun-toting psychos threatening to kill me (and trying to every few years), I would move to another neighborhood. Would you really bunker down in your basement with your pitbulls? What a shitty life that must be... IP: Logged |

Jerry, so happens this neighbor did threated my family, so to speak. I did take action and having the green belt between our properties is really good for him and his safety. I'm a member of the NRA and an avid hunter, yes this means I kill things. I do not get pleasure in shooting animals for sport, I am what is known in these parts as a "meat hunter" If there can a time to take up the sword I doubt very seriously if you would find me on the pointy end....P IP: Logged |

Lothar, you don't move a country! The Jews have been looking for a home for 4,000 years and everyone has driven them out. They are taking a stand at last. More power to them.IP: Logged |

The Palestinian authority has recognized to existence of Israel. But Israel is still denying the Palestinians their rights (as defined by international treaties and UN decisions) by creating more settlements in the Palestinian territories. I'm not saying the Palestinians are all innocent. Their leaders have ambiguous relationships with terrorists. So what? They have every right to live as all human beings. Saying the Palestinians are the bad guys in undestandable when there's been a terrorist attack on Israel, but that does not represent any progress for anyone. What do you guys think could be a long-term solution to the Middle-East situation?

Long term solution? All Arab countries recognize Israel as a legal entity and vow not to make war on her. All Arab countries open up diplomatic relations with Israel. All Arab countries crack down on terriorists and do everything in their power to stop them. After a reasonable period of time to convince the world that the Arabs are sincere then Israel can open up meaningful negotiations with the Arabs on Palestinian property rights and freedoms. The US signs a mutual defense treaty with both the Arab countries and Israel coming to the defense of whichever one is attacked by the other.Israel would buy this in a minute. It's what they have been asking for all along. They just want to be left alone. How many Arab countries do you think would agree? IP: Logged |

Surely recognition from surrounding countried would help a lot, however I'm convinced they would not agree to do anything before Israel makes some concessions to the Palestinians first.IP: Logged |

That's the problem. Israel is surrounded by neighbors with guns pointed at them and the neighbors expect Israel to drop it's guard with no assurance that they wouldn't be committing suicide. The Arabs have been the agressor here for 50 years. It's about time they make the first move. When Anwar Sadat of Egypt made peace overtures to Israel they welcomed him with open arms. There is every indication that Arab leaders like him could make peace with Israel almost over night. He was a shining light among thugs and look where it got him. IP: Logged |

I have spent time in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emerates, and Kuwait. During my time in each of these places not ONCE did I feel like I was hated or looked down upon. People were generally very nice to me and my group. So, my question is this... what is so WRONG with being a free democratic society. What the hell is it that makes these terrorists hate us so much?
