In every sim that I've seen, the textures down low look blurred out. Does anyone know how Oleg overcame this? I never even noticed it until just this morning. Almost like my brain never really caught on 'cuz it was supposed to look that way.

I find SDOEs ground textures look great down low, at least it isn't all pixaly like alot of flight sims.

I figured they just use a couple textures for each part of the terrain, a high alt one and a low alt one.

I'm not sure, but I think what Oleg did was make it so that when the player gets close to the ground, a generic "noise pattern" texture mixes with the standard terrain tiles. This is probably just a fairly high resolution repeating pattern... probably 512x512.

BoB, CFS2 and B-172 also do this hi-res "clutter" texturing down low...
