just read that the BBC has demoted band of brothers..thankfully it will stil run on BBC2. Not sure if it kicks off on the 9th Sept. though

BTW, somebody mentioned that a film 'little dieter learns to fly', a film about a Vietnam pilot is very good, it shows on BBC on Sept 17th, not sure if its on BBC1 or 2 though..

I mentioned "Little Dieter", its a great film. Its about a German, Dieter Dengler, who grew up in wartime Germany watching P51's strafe his house. He was convinced that pilots were the greatest men and he had to become one. He later emigrated to America and became a Skyraider pilot in Vietnam. He was shot down and became a POW, which is the bulk of the film.

Wow what an original idea for a movie, thats sounding really cool.

Although I wish it wasn't mostly about the POW camp and more about flying.

Is it a true story?

Yes, its a true story. If it wasn't, it would seem too fake.

The story isn't about flying, it is more about the strength of Dieter's character. Hertzog (the director) goes back with Dieter to Cambodia (Vietnam?) and they retrace some of his forced marches. His lack of hatred as he talks with some of his former guards is remarkable. Its not all set in the POW camps, though, this is just where the bulk of the story starts off.

Its been a few years since I saw it at the theater, but it should be out on video in November or December. I'm looking forward to seeing it again.

No, not Hollywood. Its a French/German/UK coproduction. Here is the Ebert review: http://www.suntimes.com/ebert/ebert_reviews/1998/10/100202.html
