Today I picked up the Eidos JSF (ca 1997) from BestBuy. It was shrink-wrapped with Jane's WWII Fighters "Classics" series.
Both boxes are the retail product, JSF seems to have all manuals and flyers. Package cost US$14.99 "Players Choice Entertainment Promo".
The CD has version 1.0, but the patch for 1.01 (?) is on the Eidos site.
For 1997, it is ok. Seems a little better quality than A-10 (Activision), but it seems unfinished. Promised 1024x768 resolution is not delivered, even by the patch.
Frame rate is good on a Cely 450a with Voodoo 5500 and 192 MB. Turn down ground detail to make landings possible (otherwise frame rate is unstable).
The AIM-9X is not correct missile, it's an older AIM-9.
Vertical/short takeoff option missing (haven't found it yet).
I guess I have the need to spend some money while waiting for IL-2 (and the other games that exceed my system's capability).
Any good sims coming out soon? I've almost bought EuroFighter a couple of times (and FLY2) but pure Jet sims are soooooo boring usually. Still waiting for a decent Harrier sim (best available is FS-SDOE).
I rather have a big prop, or two, out front to pull me around.
