Me waiting for my new 800MHz CPU to get her in the mail

bounce bounce bounce

I took the cheap upgrade since my MB only supports a 100 MHZ FSB. It's one of the new Cel 800's with a 100Mhz FSB and the SSE instructin set. I'll let you know how it performs when I Get it ($75 including fan, shipping, and slot 1 adapter card)

What are you upgrading from?

I hear the new cels weren't all that great but I guess if your coming from a 400 it could be cool.

I always hear that you don't really notice a big difference unless your doubling your chipspeed.

Now if you have some games that you are just barly not able to play smoothly then it could certainly be worth it.

I went from a P2 333 to a duron 750 and the games were better but windows wasn't a whole hell of alot faster (I also hadn't tweaked windows out yet though)

The duron 750 actually benches a hair faster then a P3 750, how is that for crazy.

I'm probly going to get an athlon 1.5 or something after christmas, for some of the new crazy stuff like IL-2, just cause they are so freaking cheap. My duron cost me 57 canadian.

BTW how much was that cel 800? Probly cheap so I guess it was worth it. My board was maxed so I needed a new one anyways.

They are 134 up hear. I can buy a Tbird 1000 up here for 139. And I could probly haggle that down a bit. A duron 800 is 79 and I know I can get that cheaper then that.

My dealer lists his duron 750 for 69, but I asked for a deal and got it for 57. Pretty cool guy

www.vibecomputers.com if any Canadians are looking for good online prices and service.

Always ask for a better deal at computer shops, they are always trying to undercut the other shops, even more so online. All they can do is say no.

Cost, 800MHZ Celeron + adapter board for Slot 1+fan+ shipping= $77

Not too bad

Since I'm going from a Cel 400 which uses a 66 MHZ FSB and doesn't have the SSE instruction set to a cel 800 with a 100MHZ FSB and it does have the SSE instruction set, I should see a good boost (all of my memory is either PC100 or PC133, so I'm set to go there)

I'm waiting for the 300+MHZ DDR to do a fullblown MB, CPU, and Ram upgrade.

Cool stuff. Thats not to bad for a doubling in mhz and a faster bus.

Yeah crucial pc2100 DDR ram is supposed to be able to hit 300 ddr. Or in other wordes 150mhz bus speed.

We shall find out as I'm getting some very shortly.

But the problem will be if the chip likes to run that speed.

I think it may be a while before you see systems that use a 300mhz DDR bus officialy.

That would mean the ram (already avalible, corsair makes it)

The chipset, I think its avalible.

The Chip, not avalible, you can buy athlons in 200 and 266 FSB flavors, I havn't heard anything about a 300 flavor coming down the pipe.

Unofficialy you should be able to do it now or soon though. I mean if a duron thats supposed to use the PC100 ram can use the PC133 then you would think that a good athlon chip could use the PC150 (or DDR300) FSB.

Gotta love all the crazyness that comes with ddr.

Oh I have PC2400, Cas 2 ram. Thats running at 150mhz bus, or 300 DDR bus.

Wa. newbies are going to get lost.

Well I just asked on a tech forum if there was complete ddr300 systems coming out anytime soon.

Well I don't think they ever will. Instead it will probly keep going right up past 300 to 333.

So in otherwords the FSB will go from 100 (200DDR) to 133 (266DDR) to 166(333DDR)

Nothing wrong with that though, but I think you will wait a good deal of time before that happens. Cause I know thats not coming out for a while. Course an 800 cel should be fine for quite a while if your not playing anything too crazy.

As far as I knew, the time frame for systems running 300MHZ or faster DDR wasn't until mid 2002 anyway.

Wa its crazy how close mid 2002 really is.

LOL

Yeah a guy was saying he was running his DDR at 145. SO he is already close.

I'm going to see just how much I can get out of my system when my new ram and board arrive

And I'll be sure to report back.

Actualy, reading through overclocking websites, almost all Athlons will run on 166mhz DDR bus In most BIOS now you can overclock the BIOS, my Duron 900 is running at 1008mhz (1gig) just by changing the BIOS to a 112mhz DDR instead of the usual 100mhz, I think this is all they did to run the Athlons at 166mhz, but I may be wrong, it could be some other tweaks in there aswell, I didn't read to deaply since I love my Duron, which when benchmarked using SiSorft Sandra Pro 2001 it benches a touch faster than a P4 1.2

Still, I diverge, it's widely accepted that an Athlon will run at 166mhz - 332mhx DDR when using PC2100 RAM
