I've just bought this card, its a kyros 11 chip, seems to get rave reviews everywhere, does anybody else use one? I put it in today and to tell the truth i'm dissapointed. I still can't play operation flashpoint and max payne with settings at full without slowdown, (especially operation flashpoint). I also dont notice many new features with regards to texture quality, lighting effects etc. Maybe i expect to much. I upgraded from a Tnt2, I remember the days when a graphics update really made a difference. (Anybody here disagree ( I'm hoping someone does so they can tell me how to make things better )

I've been hearing bad things about kyro chipset based cards.

I have a GeForce3 on a 733 PIII and I can tell you this, I have all the options maxed and running 1028x768x32 in OPFlash and Max Payne and I have no slow downs at all. (completely smooth)

Razer, how does flashpoint perform with a really big mission, ie: one of the beach invasion/ defense user built missions?

all my reports are from people that have the card. I do not base any info on reviews from websites since they do not reflect the real performance of the card in daily use.

It's completely smooth no matter whats going on.

hmm Well, i suppose you are using a geforce3, which costs more than twice as much, so I'll have to accept a performance difference. Anybody using a geforce2 mx with flashpoint? How does it perform?

Burkey,

I posted my impression of this card in SDOE. Search this board if you would like to read it (there was more than one post, about 1-2 months ago).

Somebody contacted me about my post on the forum as they were unable to register then. The newest drivers haven't fixed anything yet.
I'm holding on to this card in anticipation of Il-2, I don't play anything else but SDOE (some Warbirds 2 off-line - no problems). I hope there won't be any problems with it. I wish I have had spent that money on a better Mobo/CPU upgrade though, it seems to metter most.

Cheers

Burkey, I'm using a Gainward GeForce 2MX-400 with 64mb RAM, and I'm not kidding, Opflash hasn't showed even a hint of stuttering since I got it.

I have a 4000XT that uses the same technology and drivers. It shows the ground textures in a a less blended way. I hope this will improve with a proper recognition by DX. It is also very depemdant on your CPU power, I think it is where they save money.

I am very happy with this card ($80 U.S.) It is a real 3D card that unlocked the full potential of some games I already had. I consider those products as the poor man's way into gaming.

Beware of FPS as a mesure of performance. The way my card behaves I get a nice crisp response even down to 10-12 FPS .

If you look closely you will see that the ground looks more like camo. Yhis is only on close-up and I have seen other pics here with this look from other vid cards.

Blind Faith,

This is the kind of picture mu Herc 4500 renders! The guy from STM who e-mailed me said they were going to contact Inertia (they are around the corner, apparently) about the problem (an 'issue' they call those kind of things nowadays ). It looks like it's related to Guillemot (Hercules) drivers, I wish they released the fix. I'm sorry to say that BFaith, but your post was a bit of a consolation for me, it's not only me who has this kind of an 'issue'

Cheers

Semmern, I downloaded the latest drivers. I try to turn it it on in the options setting of flashpoint but it clicks, still says disabled and becomes underlined with a jagged line?!. Do I have to turn it on in the actual board software or something?

Hmmmm, I don't have this problem, so I can't tell you how to solve it, but i do know that there's nothing that needs to be turned on.

Hi,

i am useing the Kyro2. My PC is a P3 700 and 256MB RAM.
In SDOE i have all settings to maximum and no problems.
Only problem it will not work under OpenGL.
I have Flashpoint on my PC, but it is my son playing with it. No complaints. I had a short look and couldnīt see any problem.

Steffen,

Does your groung look like that shown in the BFaith's screenshot? I have tried everything (software and hardwirewise) to get rid of that banding but to no avail. I have Cel 700 on an Abit BX6-2, 512MB. I can fly in OpenGL but it hangs up the PC completely from timt to time. The banding in OGL is less pronounced. What do you have that I don't, I wonder...

Poniat,

2 things, can you send me the e-mail address of the guy from SMT?

The banding you're seeing can be caused by the fact SDOE renders in 16 bit. If the graduations in color are too little over a certain distance it will cause banding. (Not enough colors available to do a smooth transition)

I can ray trace a scene in 16 bit and the banding would be visible. This is why most stuff for video (as in TV) is done in 24 or 32 bit.

Thanks to confirm this DJH. It leans toward what I couuld figure out from reading up on the KYRO texturing problems. Here is what I found just hoping it will make sense to you too.

DX's API is missing a link between a (new) texturing process used by the KYRO chipset and refers those call to a software based rendering process, This is not true for all games and may be, as you said, linked to 16 bits colors.

I stopped lokking for a solution until DX9 comes out.
