Does anyone know how to turn down the internal speaker that lets you and your neighbors know you're loging on to the network. Mine is way too loud and it's driving me nuts, maybe time to get out the wire cutters

Go into "Dial Up Networking" from "My Computer" and right click | Properties on the connection you use to connect up, in the "General" tab, click the "Configure" button where it has your modem listed and again in the "General" tab you should see a speaker volume control slider, it should have an Off setting...it may even have a "Shut Up" setting on some systems.

I was also eager to get an answer to this question....I follow the directions and turn the slider to off....but as soon as I close everything down and try to connect, there is still a speaker...I go back and the slider is back where it was Any ideas?

Ya Jeeves, I had the same problem. So I went back and "OKed" out of each window and it worked. Try that, it's a brand new world

Lol no prob.

Also Jeeves, if that doesn't work, go into Control Panel, open the "System" applet then switch to the "Device Manager" tab, click the "+" next to Modem and select the modem you use to connect up, click Properties...switch to the "Modem" tab and you should have another volume slider here also...try setting this to "Off" and make sure the slider in DUN (Dial-Up Networking) is also set to Off (if the slider stays put that is) as described above and see how you go.
