Okay...I got one for my birthday and I still can't get it to work.I have a Athlon 600 with a MSI board and the 751 Irongate Chipset (I think its my problem), 128meg of ram, and a Visiontek Gforce card. I updated the bios, the chipset drivers, and go the latest vid drivers. I re-installed directX too. I get fine 2d preformance, but in any form of 3d app, the graphics will quickly lock up, or just go ... screwy. I'm betting I have an incompatible mobo, after reading about such problems on the web, but I thought I'd see if any of you had better ideas or luck. Or at least could suggest a good board for an Athon based gforce system. [This message has been edited by goth (edited 07-29-2001).] IP: Logged |

When I first bought my GeForce2 MX400, I didnt get the perfornace I was expecting... But then I downloaded the latest 12.41 drivers from NVIDIA and the GeForce tweak utility and all is well! No lockups, but sometimes my system becomes unstable and low on resources. I think its a BIOS related problem on my end... But at any rate, download the latest 12.41 drivers here: http://www.nvidia.com/ and the tweak utility from here: http://tweakfiles.com/video/geforcetweakutility.html Also take a look at the GeForce FAQ. Ive found many an answer from this document: http://www.geforcefaq.com/faq.cgi IP: Logged |

Goth, I feel your pain. I have a VIA chipset Athlon computer with a Geforce 2MX. It would lock up all the time under 3d. Eventually I got it to work if I went into dxdiag and disabled "texture acceleration". Oh, I too downloaded and installed new comp and vid card bioses, new via drivers, 4-in-1, etc. I did it all, literally. Nothing worked, and disabling texture acceleration hurt 3D performance by 40% or so. Too much. What did I do? I sent my motherboard back to the vendor and got a replacement. I swapped the board, and without touching any software I booted it up and it worked fine. Even if you do everything right and have all the right software, you could have a board with a subtle flaw that doesn't show up until you do something like run a 2MX on it. Good luck! IP: Logged |

I've got an Athlon 1GHz, 256mb RAM, a VIA mobo, and a GeForce 2MX-400. I haven't had any problems or lockups at all.IP: Logged |

I just tried downloading the 12.41 drivers, but when I try to open the exe, an error message pops up, saying that the exe's not a valid Win32 program or something like that.[This message has been edited by semmern (edited 07-29-2001).] IP: Logged |

Thanks for the links and help. I've decided to replace the motherboard. Any suggestions on a good mobo for an athlon system? IP: Logged |

I have a VIA mobo, it's cheap, and I haven't had any problems with it so far. You might want to have a look at one of those.IP: Logged | |
