I drove her off the lot on Tuesday afternoon. I LOVE THIS THING! just went on a little midnight road trip with TS lastnight. Had the top off, and the tunes cranked! that was a blast! TS has a pretty sweet ride himself! The Jeep has like 600K on it already hehehe. THe gas milage could be better, but it's not as bad as I thought it would be. 4 cyl 2.5L. I would have got the 4.0 but that one only got 19 mi/gal!!!!!!!! My next little project is to take the doors off and fold the windshield down . Anyways, it's been almsot an hour since I drove it, so it's back the the open roads for me! later guys! ------------------ Cheers! Lt. Col. Jaguar The FS Hangar IP: Logged |

Hey, my uncle used to own one of those, I've driven it a lot. Congratulations with that new toy.My fav car at the mo is the Subaru Forester S Turbo. It's got a 170hp engine, and really rocks! Now, if I could just persuade my dad to buy us one of those . IP: Logged |

Woooo, very nice. My first Jeep was a 1984 CJ-7. Ordered it the way I wanted it. Later added 350 chevy engine, lockers in both front and back diffs, and 35" SuperSwamper tires. That thing would go anywhere. Now that I am grown up, I sold it and bought a 1997 Wrangler. Man, I love to drive that thing. You can bet that my next vehicle will be another Jeep. Jag, have you noticed that when you pass another Jeep the other driver will wave. That is so cool. IP: Logged |

I just bought a Wrangler this June. It's a 1998 and it only had 32000 miles on it. It's black with a tan top. I love it. Years ago I had a 1979 cj7 and when I got rid of it I said at the time someday I'll have another one, well now I do.The salesman who sold it to me told me that a prominate (and very rich) attorney in our town buys an new Wrangler every year. The salesman asked him one time why an affluent person like him liked to drive a Jeep. He said that before he had a Jeep everyone he met in a Jeep always had a smile on their face and he wanted to be that way too. IP: Logged |

I like the looks of the subarus. very cool. Is it standard or auto? The 2.5L is kinda gutless on big hills (especially since I'm at 3,500ft here) but I don't mind. The thing isn't too great on gas, and I can just imagine what the 4.0L would be like. I have ben too bussy drooling while driving to notice anyone else on the roads LOL, but I'll keep that in mind next time I'm out Raider.
Smokey, I know exactly what he means. I'm smiling ALL THE TIME while I drive my TJ around. I just couldn't imagine driving another vehicle (untill I can actually afford a Hummer, that is ) I LOVE MY JEEP!

Sweet Jag... That thing is screaming for some mud though, the Deerfoot isn't where that beauty belongs. I was off in the family 2wd minivan (lol) trundling through this little two track forestry road in BC last week, man would you have some fun out there. Frances Creek forest service road. he he he he. If ever you have a hankering for some fun and not-too-crazy offroading a day's drive from the city, let me know. WM ------------------ Abbeville Field: Dedicated to the SDOE Experience. IP: Logged |

I'll post pics of my pride and joy once the engine swap is finished and the new paint is applied. 19mpg? I'll be lucky to get 10 once the turbo is put on the new engine along with the other engine fixes I plan to do. IP: Logged |

Looks pretty nice, I would have gone for the 4 liter though, thats the engine for offroad. I want to get an older one myself, I just don't have the cash for a new one and I don't want to care about scratching it up. Me and a friend were just looking at a dodge power wagon(late 40s early 50s) a couple weeks back, man is that sucker ever sweet. IP: Logged |

I kinda dig the older Land Rovers, the earlier ones with metal grilles, I especially like the Land Rover 90, great for offroad driving .IP: Logged |

Here's what the typical logging road looked like when I was driving the 5 ton for the last chopper company. Wish I had my Jeep then!!!! LOL@ Razer.... the TJ's ok on gas in the city... it's the highway thats killer. I have to keep the RPM high to keep up and it just sucks back the gas HAHAAHAAHAHAHAAHAHA I do love my sheep, but that's another story .... Hey TS, could you hear my music from where you were?
Yeah, just after I got it I was pissed I didn't get the 4. But after driving for a while... I'M GLAD!!! This things bad enough on gas as it is. I could just imagine how much fuel the 4 would suck back. Besides, I can't see myself doing enough off roading with it to justify a 4... Right now it's my work vehicle till I fix the 'ol shaggen wagon, so a 4 would be pointless. It would be nice to have the 4, but for me the 2.5 is the practical choice.............. Till I get my Hummer =) You know.... I never thought about a Rover.... I bet they are pretty expensive though..... I like the look of a jeep a little better though. Looks...... more bad assed [This message has been edited by Jaguar (edited 08-01-2001).] IP: Logged |

Yeah your right, if your not doing offroad then the 2.5 should be cool. Why a hummer? I've never understood why people wanted them, I find them way too huge. A well moded jeep does amazing stuff offroad. Just ask Raider, it sounds like he knows what they can do IP: Logged |

I've got the 4.0 liter engine. I get about 17 mpg. I think it's a little bad for a 6 cylinder engine but I can live with it.IP: Logged |

Yeah my buddys mom has a Jeep wagoneer (rebadged cherokee) with the 4 liter, and yes it does suck gas, the jeep itself is pretty damn heavy too though so that doesn't help.

To be honest. I'm not sure why I'm dieing to get a Hummer. The are expensive.. Big.... bad on gas........ but....... I LOVE THEM!!!!!! I'll have one one day, and it's not going to be a road king, she's going off road and getting her paint scuffed heheheheI think my 2.5 is bad on gas! but I guess it works a little harder than a 4 so it would suck the gas back a bit more.... but still........ I guess it's to be expected from a Jeep though. DARN HIGH GAS PRICES! I forget what the TJ weighs.... 3,100 lbs I think. thats a fair bit for it's size. IP: Logged |

Here are some pictures of my old beast. Jeep CJ 7, modified Chevy 350 engine, Detroit locker in the rear diff and True track limited slip in the front. Here it had 35 inch Super Swamper tires. It had a 10,000 lb. Warn winch on the front (on a 3000 lb. jeep - that thing would pull me up a tree), but I took it of when I added the lockers to the diffs. That thing just didn't get stuck anymore.
The key to a great off-road vehicle is traction. The best investments for an off road rig is good off-road tires and limited slip / lockers in both front and rear diffs.
Jag, I bet if when you put your Jeep in low range and in first gear that 4 banger has plenty of spunk. Get some good tires and if you want serious off-roading invest in the mods to the diffs. You would do just fine. [This message has been edited by Raider (edited 08-03-2001).] IP: Logged |

K................. DARN THAT LOOKS LIKE FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I haven't had the beast in 4 Low yet..... But I plan to soon......... I agree with you though Raider, the lockers and tires are the most important thing as far as off-roading goes. I'm not sure if I wanna get bigger tires just yet. Bigger tires are so hard on gas. I wanna see what I can do with this thing stock, before I decide on what mods I need. But the 3 things on my list now are tires, lockers, and a winch.Speaking of which. Where is a good place to buy this stuff? Canada preferably, but if there's a good cheap place online, that'll suit me just fine too. I think the very first thing I'll get is a soft top though. I'm looking at either 1 of 2 soft tops.... The Steelhorse Wind Breaker http://www.quadratec.com/cgi-bin/sgin0101.exe?T1=11030+15&UID=2001080618215981&UREQA=1&FNM=11 or, The Steelhorse Header Island Topper Bikini http://www.quadratec.com/cgi-bin/sgin0101.exe?T1=11124+15&UID=2001080618215981&UREQA=1&FNM=11 They are cheap, and all I really need them for is to preotect the inside in case I get caught in the rain.... I HOPE they'll be small enough to store under the seats. I'd rather not get the traditional style soft top, cause you gotta remove the wondows before folding it down. Then.. Where do you store them without being scratched?... But at the same time, these things don't have any sides to them..... ohhh choices. IP: Logged |

Same here, about 1 USD per litre. One of my colleagues just ordered a 2.0-litre Peugeot 307, here it's considered a "very big engine" and is about the bigger you'll find on a "nomal" car, except luxury cars.IP: Logged |
