Why do you prefer the airplanes from the WW2 to the modern airplanes?
In my case, it is because I am always interested the WW2 in all their aspects; since I believe that it was like Wagner's work taken to the reality. As for the airplanes, they also have a style that no other modern airplane can overcome; and they were also the last ones in carrying out true air bereavements.

I'm with you Gustavo,
Most planes from that whole era (1930's and 40's) just ooozed class

You'll never find classics like that anymore

Though, in 50 years time, they'll probably be saying the same thing about todays modern aircraft

WWII planes had the best elements of the drama of WWI dogfights but with better technology in their planes. It was the perfect balance of drama and design - with today's technology those same kind of dogfights where you could see the other person's face are lost. That's not to say modern air combat is any less interesting or that the lethality is reduced because you can't see your opponent, but it just isn't the same as WW2 flying.

I think one of the appeals of WWII aircraft is that they represent state of the art technology when it comes to propeller driven planes. Even today, we would be hard-pressed to build a propeller combat plane that could out perform a WWII fighter. They were the end of an era. And you flew them rather than them flying you like in today's fly-by-wires.
