Kidding!

While I currently don't have the ISP to match , I'm lucky I even posted this, I finally got the cash to get myself this lil' monster yesterday. I hope this system will last me for another few months at least. Was gonna go for a P4 CPU, but from what I've heard, the price difference doesn't justify the performance.

This is what I got:

Intel Pentium III 1000mhz
ASUS CUS L2 FLIP 815 Chipset MB
256MB PC 133 SD-RAM
40GB 7,200 RPM Quantum Fireball ATA100 HDD
ASUS 32MB DDR V7700 GeForce II GTS
ASUS USB IPanel
17" 0.27 Monitor
52x CD ROM
1.44MB Panasonic Floppy Drive
Internal 100MB Zip Drive
Creative 128 Sound Card
56K Internal Motorola Data/voice Modem
120W Amplified Speakers
A-Open KF45 ATX Mid-tower case
PS2 Keyboard
PS2 Mouse
Windows 98 SE OEM

All this for...AUD $2,590, USD $1,341 or CAD $2,071. Quite a bargain right?

I went with Win98 SE because of the good experience I had with it on my other system. When I say 'good', this is a relative statement.

So how does it run SDOE? No less than 65 to 70 FPS with a 'normal' mission of about 5 planes with full clouds and full detail levels. At 1280 x 1024, the FPS comes down to about 55-60 with the same mission, but it does look damn sweet, like a movie almost when explosions and detached parts are spinning through the air so freely. With a single plane at 1024 x 768, the FRs top 85. And H & D, that runs like never before. The mission with the Catalina (H & D fans will know this) that had a bug and ran slow is suddenly ok! Well, almost, but much better than with my PIII 500. The rest of H & D is smooth as silk! H & D FFF/DB runs sweet too, no FR loss from what I can tell and very fast in combat situations. Also, I can run B17II at 100% full detail now with no stutter at all and it really looks quite nice.

I'm gonna have a hard time filling 40GB of HD space though, but then again...

Multiple SDOE installs, here I come! It will take a few days for HMW to get back into top gear churning out vehicles, but I've got almost everything moved over to this computer now.

I'll stop bragging now.

Il-2 requires at least 256 mb ram, 512 is better, but 1024 is the best. Some report stuttering with 512.........And at least 1.7GHz.

Kidding. Haha, had ya there for a sec

How does the Peenemunde mission run? I think you're hosting from now on.

And you bet I noticed that H&D ran smooth at the Catalina mission after upgrading to 1GHz and 256 mb ram.

You that in that mission, with a full team, you're still outnumbered 21 to 1? (and that's not including the artillery or the tanks) That mission was fun, but it was craziness. Knee deep in corpses by the end.

Now that I have this system and can run that mission quite well, I've been trying to complete it and boy is it a tricky mess!

Three guys, all HMGs, lying down...one man AT. We were ready...not much of a party without the enemy though, I've never seen so many!
