Thats great, Pete. I hope you are enjoying it.Please, though, for all of us, don't go easy on Oleg! Be picky, be critical, if something is buggy or the FMs are wrong, report it! I'm really looking forward to this sim, and it seems like Oleg is exceptionally dedicated to doing it right the first time. Help him help us! IP: Logged |

So... what exactly _can_ you say about it, Pete. You can evidently state a general opinion. How about refute untrue or opined statements (i.e. "I heard a rumor that IL2 multiplay is really terrible and can't support over 10 players at a time and still be playable")? Can you state yes or no? Play 21 questions? j/k.. now get back to the bug killin'! IP: Logged |

I had a Voodoo5 and IL-2 was really slow on it (733 pIII) but when i dropped int he GeForce 3 my performance went thru the roof with everything up and 1128x what ever in 32bit color.it's really a great game just wish they would be more open to add-ons. IP: Logged |

Sadly, Maddox had ticked me off by stating that the reason he didn't make it open ended like SDOE was that he didn't want cheaters to be able to modify planes. As far as I know, SDOE hasn't had any problems of the like. His comment (posted on BlueByte's IL-2 faq, I beleive) got a WTF reaction from me. I think the real reason is that if IL-2 does well, money can be made by selling add-ons.IP: Logged |

Actually I'm glad they arn't. I like they way they are going about it, it will avoid what SDOE has turned into and people will be flying instead of arguing about about what should be in the next plane pack and how big it should be and, and, and, and. Siggi is right, a game needs a dictator, they are the dictators.

As far as I knew they were still going to let people work on planes but they would add it to the game and they woudl do the FM, that would keep out the arguments about FMs and DMs and crap like that. I wouldn't have a problem with people being able to use any planes they want to make offline and in their own head to head games. IP: Logged |

Spanky - I love SDOE, particularly for its open-endedness, but you're right. I am so glad Oleg's doing it the way he's doing it. I'll fiddle around with SDOE and mod and stuff, but I'm going to fly and fly and fly with IL2. Werner ------------------ Abbeville Field: Dedicated to the SDOE Experience. IP: Logged |

Finally someone has managed to make realistic looking smoke effects! I'm truly amazed in how many things this sim seems to raise the bar. But I wonder how many planes one will be able to have in the sky... ( http://gamespot.com/gamespot/filters/products/screenindex/0,11104,354449-3,00.html )

IL-2 will be the SDOE replacer I believe. It's got to happen sometime, and IL-2 is very capable of doing it.So look out SDOE, your days are numbered. (And I love SDOE as you all know, so just saying IL-2 is really incredible). IP: Logged |

Pete I totally agree with you. Ive talked to and looked at Il-2 from various sources (No Im not telling) and I believe Il-2 is THE next step in flight sims. The game is just ground breaking! Thats all there is to it. It may not be AS user-mod friendly... but it sure as hell can whoops SDOEs a$$ in every single other department. FINALLY a flight sim that does flight true and utter justice!! IP: Logged |

Unless we get our online **** together in a hurry, IL2 is going to weaken this game to a fraction of its current following. One thing it won't do though is replace SDOE in the hearts of those who really like (w)ETO ops, like the Battle of Britain or North Africa for instance.Oh well, its not as though when SDOE finally slips under the waves that we're all being put out to pasture, I mean already I've run into a ton of the old SDOE guys at ilyushin2.net! It will replace SDOE for a short time but this sim with it's fully elastic nature will live long and well for those that like to build highly detailed planes that simulate the real feeling of flight. http://www.rcwarbirds.com/ IP: Logged |

Ive heard that the FMs were REALLY good. I mean like better and more realistic feeling than SDOEs flight models. No where near B-172 or CFS2... And Il-2 HAS detailed planes!! Have you seen the cockpits! Or the intricate detail on the aircraft! The skins could use some slight updates tho... And NO JAGGIES!!!! IP: Logged |

Todes & Psi - Refer to to the first part of my last post for clarification.Psi - Regardless of what I said or how you interpreted it, there is a big difference between personal-"poke-and-jab"-inflammatory and (perceived-)doomsaying-inflamatory. For the record - SDOE is like a political party. If enough people still believe it in, you can't kill it dead. No matter how good IL2 is, its an Eastern Front sim and that doesn't cover all the bases, obviously. This is the point I was making above. The second line confused things, admittedly. The point there was that eventually 99.9% of us will have moved on (5,10 years, etc) but that doesn't mean we can't have fun with flight sims, the community still moves on. Sometimes I just see people get all defensive when it doesn't make sense, I mean its not like when SDOE does become part of the distant past that you do too. Do you understand my point a little better now? Not inflammatory, just realistic. Werner ------------------ Abbeville Field: Dedicated to the SDOE Experience. IP: Logged |

Yes Pete also made a comment about IL2 possibly being the death of SDOE, but the difference was in the remark I quoted in my post above - the only two people who have on previous occasions accused each other of writing inflammatory posts are the two of us. I'm not looking to make a flame war out of this Psi, I just wanted to make sure my point about IL2 drawing people away from SDOE was clarified, and I did that.
